The historyteachers on YouTube have a lot of great videos like that.

I think the idea of using new media to bring history to people is always laudable. Less laudable is using a re-hash of a song no one wants to hear to do it.

Great idea. It's a bit confusing as she's jumping from topic to topic, but some things might stick.

Sorry for the necro, but I just noticed that she had a whole series of videos. Thanas, would you consider them to be pretty accurate? I take it that you approve of her song on Rome since you posted it.

There is a lot of popular stuff on there and some stuff is clearly made by the super-christian within their group and drives me up the wall (like the constantine song). That said, some off the stuff, while inaccurate, is still good (like their french revolution song).

All in all, I'd wager they get more things right than wrong and they manage to do so in a style that is bound to capture student's attention.

There's some pressure on teachers to find or create things like this. I do think the hundred-odd Shakespeare Rap videos on youtube are going too far though. And there's always the story in education circles about the guy who was going to quit, until he managed to rig a live-feed of meteorological data to his class and saw the kids actually paying attention.

So yes, we're very aware of the need.

On one hand, I dislike the base song and find this low brow and low level.
On the other hand, it's cool and i'll send it to a bunch of history loving friends

I still prefer adventure games as teaching tools. Or Age of Empires 2

Personally Rome : Total War sparked my interest about the ancient era beyond popular conceptions. As a lay person I had little idea about the other nations that existed during the antiquity. Total War did a great service to me by spiking my curiosity to find out more.
