[EDITING] So when do we get this back?

In particular, our ability to edit posts at any time we feel like in specific forums like HAB, or the History Subforum?

Whenever Mike has the time to edit the raw code.

The majority of the work was already done, but I guess a few forums must have been missed. I know OT, AMP, Fan Fics, G&C, ARSE, and Testing have unlimited editing now.

Could someone provide a complete list of forums in which we want full editing enabled? The software change is actually pretty easy, now that the code is in place. All I have to do is edit the exception list.

I think the private subforums should get full editing, unless specific forums don't want it (I suppose the private usergroup mods could talk to you about that).
For the public forums:
Fanfics
* Completed or Cleaned Up Fanfics
Fantasy (maybe? Someone who frequents that forum will have to make a call on that)
Off-Topic
*History Forum
AMP
*Art Gallery
Gaming & Computers
* STGOD role-playing games
ARSE
Testing
I don't know about HoC or the Senate.

I personally think that Sci-Fi would benefit more from full editing than Fantasy, since from my general impression, the posts there seem to be more substantive and often I find some irritating typos in long posts.

^I disagree. Disabling editing in Sci-fi prevents dishonest debating. Same goes for fantasy.

Is there a lot of that going on in general sci-fi & fantasy forums? I thought we only needed to watch that in the "versus" forum.

I have no idea regarding the Fantasy forum, but considering there are quite a number of threads like
this HoS thread and a good number of locked threads in OSF seems to indicate to me that unlimited editing should not be allowed in those forums.

PST/PSW don't see a whole lot of debate, so I don't think it needs an edit lock.

Actually I would keep the lock in those subformus. There might not be much actual debate but there
are quite a few threads where tempers run high and people might be tempted to massage their earlier statements.

One fact I'll throw out there with regards to the editing limits: the original purpose of them was to prevent dishonest debating by quietly editing posts. However, the new software logs all moderator actions and displays them in a window any mod can look at, including edits by regular users. So if someone does edit an earlier post, it's trivial for a moderator to check the logs and see it. Unfortunately, it doesn't show what changes were made, so it's probably not enough to restore full editing to contentious forums, but it's something to consider.

Just in general I support the idea that all Private forums should have editing enabled unless the individual forum mods in charge think otherwise.

That's why I didn't suggest OSF, but I'm unsure of Fantasy. It seems to me that there's more discussion and less debate in that forum, but like I said, I don't go in there very often, so I'm not sure what the actual content of the forum is. As for OSF, there's plenty of Vs threads in there, that's definitely not a forum I'd like to see with an Edit button.

There are some debates in Fantasy. Even the few that pop up is enough that I think permaedit should not be instituted there. No one is going to cry and the board isn't going to break if someone has to do a Ghetto Edit and get a +1 to their post count.
Also, I can't think of a reason anyone would need the permaedit feature in there. Balrog and Nitram do have stickies going that they contribute to. Nitram already has permaedit. I don't think that Balrog does, so perhaps he would like it as he does go back in and make edits from time to time.

I personally found the full-editing option rather useful for my analytical stuff, since I periodically had to go in and make a few changes in some cases to very old posts.
And really, locking threads usually has to do more with necroing or other stupid shit than it does for actual dishonesty. Its actually rare to have any dishonest folk in OSF IMHO.
