Because admin-approved registration was a pain in the ass.

We are protected from bots by an automated registration protection system. Skill challenges, things like that. The old policy used to be that people using anonymous email accounts needed a 10 dollar donation, I dont know if that has changed.

Still, the system as it is now does not prevent people from registering and posting kiddy porn, or even from registering and then having a bot do their dirty work.

Still, a giant *HUG* to the mod staff. Refreshing a thread and seeing kiddy porn was one of the more disturbing things to ever happen to me... Thank you for cleansing our board.

Thank you mods for your swift banning of those trolls. Not something I needed to see.

No more of those freaks posting for the time being. Maybe it's over?

Or they have just had their IPs banned and are setting up proxies.

I strongly recommend everyone turn off images in posts for the time being. Best way to avoid trouble for the immediate future.

And please keep reporting the posts. Those flags help us a great deal.

If you want to be safe for the next day or so while we swing back over to the old system(IE give us money) or Mod approved, or a possible delay in rights method. Turn off Image viewing

Control Panel-Profile -Edit Display options, turn off images and flash. You can still view it, you just have to click it.

I got a Report from a user in the HoC and while I was in the process of writing a reply the whole thread got spammed... I went as quick as I could to get rid of picture first, since that slowed down everything, then went back to break links. Damn, the little buggers were fast.

That's was Mike's idea. And it wouldn't really have protected the board from troll invasions. They'd have just signed up a bunch of accounts early. Dumbass.

We hadn't had a Board Invasion for a long time-- certainly not a serious one. I think the last one was Troll Kingdom, and that was kinda low key... truth is, we saw 'Bots' as more of a threat...

I turned it off the second I saw the "war shots" and "necrophilia", I could barely stomach that, it was pretty obvious that it was only gonna get worse from there.

Why do people look up that shit?

This might continue for the next few days. For those who search the forum from work, I cannot stress strongly enough, TURN OFF IMAGES. The child porn aspect is being discussed and will be dealt with, we do not need vigilantes from our members.

Actually, the TK raid had that. We had a former Village Idiot who redeemed himself, worked hard, to look good, etc, by the handle Raoul Duke Jr. He was a member for a couple years or so and supposed to be the "inside man".

But when they finally did their raid it was... I mean, it was like zombie uprisings: sure, the zombies get an initial, surprise round in because you don't expect it, but once aware of the problem, it was dealt with fairly quickly. For the amount of work and long-term planning that went into it, it really fizzled.
