PS2 problem.. HELP!

Post by Isil`Zha »

Trying to find out if it's possible to fix it myself:

Ok, I'll make the entire story short. Worked great a few months ago, I went on a 3 week vacation in which it sat unused the entire time. I came back and it would read *nothing*. I cleaned it with air (wouldn't even read CD lens cleaner) and it would then read audio CDs instantly, it would read games always, but only after going to browser screen... after about a week, it stopped reading games again, I thouroughly cleaned it: no effect. So, I took it apart and cleaned it even more thouroughly: it worked! not perfect, went to browser screen, but it worked... for another week. Now, it reads audio CDs perfectly fine.. instantly... but it won't read games!!! Actually, just now I discovered that it won't specifcally read *any* type of DVD rom... (99% of PS2 games being DVD roms..) It will read the blue PS2 discs instantly, like the audio CDs, but it will *not* read any of the DVD games (IE: all of my games, the only blue disc I have that I tested that one was the MGS2 *demo*, all my other games are DVD roms) Why is it not reading DVD roms suddenly? Anyone have any idea how to fix it? Thanks.

You might have damaged something cleaning it. Trust me, that's easily done. If you left it in a particularly warm room for two weeks, it might have warped something.

No, not a peticularly warm room... also, I didn't actually physically touch the lens myself in anyway, I cleaned a few things around it and such.

But that doesn't make sense... why does it have no problem whatsoever reading CDs but can't read any type of DVD? I've had nothing but trouble since I got back, it doesn't make sense...

That's the point of this, I really don't want to dish out $120 because it broke for no reason whatsoever...

See, the problem keeps changing, and right now it's like this:

Reads any/all CDs with *no trouble at all*.
Will *not* read *any* type of DVD. (And being 99% of PS2 games are DVD roms...)

It's free to just get the problem evaluated. Repairs are what you have to shell out for.
