Job interview question
If you were ask what's your greatest weakness at a job interview what would you say? Would you be honest or avoid the question?

Don't Know
I honestly probably couldn't answer it. I always do badly with those types of questions.

Be as honest as you can. Be prepared for the question with a relevant example that doesn't make you look that bad. Don't mention your lack of work effort or the like and it'll more than likely be ok. Just choose something that you believe to be a weakness and be prepared for them to ask for you to eloborate on it.

Honesty is important - part of the motivation for this question is for them to establish your maturity in evaluating yourself. Just don't wave a huge red flag!
One of the tricks I have heard is to try to find something that can be interpreted as having both strength and weakness. For example, "I lose my patience when coworkers don't deliver on their promises".
And if it's me interviewing you, don't worry, you won't get asked that question![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

I think if you're honest, use an example that isn't too damning, and give an example how you're trying to fix it or grow past it, you should be ok.

Be honest to a point, don't admit something so glaring that it would preclude you from getting a job.
ie) "Sometimes I don't put in my best effort because I know you are'nt going to reward me anyway."
Questions like these are fucking annoying. It is better to ask "What areas would you like to improve yourself in as it relates to the job."

I told a manager at an interview that I have a problem with procrastination but I've been working to fix that and gave some (not entirely true since I left out a lot of details) examples. And he hired me. Admittedly, I'm talking about a part time position at a retail clothing store, but I'm still working there, so that has to count for something.

Actually that's a good example. I don't want to be too convincing thoughDarth Paul wrote:Honesty is important - part of the motivation for this question is for them to establish your maturity in evaluating yourself. Just tell them that you're pathologically dishonest. That'll go over well ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

The problem with that is that so many people try to use something that can be interpreted as both strength and weakness. You don't want to use something that has become very trite.Darth Paul wrote:Honesty is important - part of the motivation for this question is for them to establish your maturity in evaluating yourself. Re: Job interview question
I've been to many interview workshops the answer the interviewer wants to hear is the following: I have no weakness that would effect this job. Failing that if you want to me a smartarse answer that perfectionsim would be the weakness.Specialist wrote:If you were ask what's your greatest weakness at a job interview what would you say?
