I have to say that my experiences with Home Depot have been good, for the most part. The people on the floor tend to be knowledgable and polite, and the cash people tend to be thorough and professional. I have observed, for example, that they *always* check that the signature on my credit card matches the one I just wrote on the sales receipt. Most places give me back the card before I ever write my name.
I also haven't had any problems returning items, though I haven't had to do so in about a year. If they have changed the procedure recently, I haven't had to deal with it.
That said, I'd still have had no problem letting the cashier screw her employers over through her indifference. Just the kind of guy I am.
stupid home depot

Home Depot is a great place to buy something when you know what you want and what you need. We've bought all our light fixtures, electrical, plumbing, doors, windows, trim, and molding from them. Their stocks are incredible and we've got exactly what we needed. It really is a good store, bad employees excluded. Some try to help, some don't.
shiiiddd... Home depot is wal-mart with tools. I go to REAL hardware stores.
