Blanco obviously doesn't know squat about hockey. The speed of impacts in hockey is greater than any other sport, and when a quality hitter like Stevens hits an average baseball creampuff, the result is a nice ride in the ambulance.

As for baseball, I watched when the Blue Jays won two World Series in 92-93. And yes, I can say with confidence that these home-plate collisions happen once every half-dozen games or LESS. Don't try to bullshit me. [EDIT: in fact, violent home-plate collisions are FAR less frequent than that; the catcher usually spins out of the way and tags the runner, and violent collisions are EXTREMELY rare, whereas they happen in every game in football or hockey, many times]

PS. I reiterate an earlier point: in baseball, you can be seriously overweight and still compete at the national level. It is not a serious sport.

Fernando Valensuela

I rest your case, Wong. ;)

Although, I do like to watch a good pitching match in baseball. It's unfortunate that it is the only summer sport to watch. As for participating in the summer, I like swimming. I also play basketball, which is a high contact sport, especially when I'm playing. ;)

Heck, Babe Ruth. He's supposed to be one of the best ever and look at the kind of shape he was in. Not to mention his lifestyle of partying and smoking.

Tony Gywnn, would of the best hitter ever. How much better would he have been if he'd been in good enough shape to be fast enough to get a few more singles?

Actually, I played right wing on my high school team's checking line. I know a lot more about hockey than most people think. And the comment I made was direct right at Stevens. I also played baseball. Yes, hockey is definatly a more physical contact sport, but baseball is that much more mental.

How many over weight players do you see in MLB? How many talentless goons are there in the NHL? How many fat lumps are wondering the NFL?

You can have absolute almost zero puck handling or skating ability and make pro hockey. You can be 400lbs and make a pro football team. You need extrodinary skill at at least one aspect of the game to play pro baseball. Ya, Tony Gwynn was over weight, but what a great hitter and he is a brilliant baseball mind. Ya, Babe Ruth was over weight but he was probably the greatest player ever. He was a great hitter and pitcher. Do you know how strong he actually was?

What can Tie Domi do other than run into people and throw elbows?
