Another good one about idiots and tanks is the story about the BMW jackass who was unhappy with the slow road speed of a convoy:
tanker06@aol.com (Jerry Miller) wrote: We had a BMW, whose driver thought that he was
in a hurry, pull in between my Hummer & the M1 that I
was following during a roadmarch in Germany. We were
sitting at a traffic light (busy intersection), so I was
giving it plenty of room due to the heat. Up zipped this
Beemer, and popped in between us. (He obviously
having no clue as to the amount of heat generated by
the M1's turbine.) Almost instantly, I saw something go
flying off the front of the car, followed by a flurry of
airborne flakes. I got out then realized the flying objects
were paint flakes, as the heat melted/burned the paint
right off. About that time, there was a "POP" and the
windshield crazed. He threw it into reverse, and I still
don't see how he missed us as he backed up.
He then jumps out and starts cursing the TC and
myself (I guess because I couldn't stop laughing). Then
the LT in charge of policing incidents showed up, he
took our statements, and we continued on our way. Not
sure what ever happened with that.
I just wish I could have found my camera! ;-)

Meanwhile, a 25 foot-high inflatable replica of fast food mascot Ronald McDonald is also still missing after it was whisked by high winds from a Newport restaurant last week.
I can't believe no one sees what really happened here. Ronald McDonald stole the tank!

My Father works at a enviromental analysis firm. One day there were examining an abandoned russian training ground and decided a small pond had to be completly removed because the water was so contaminated. They pumped it out and found three! complete T-72 tanks at the bottom.

The problem quickly became that nobody missed them, so they didn´t know what to do with them. They couldn´t just leave them there. And nobody wanted them either because they would be stuck with the demilitarisation and scrapping costs.

They finally found out that the russians used to train underwater driving in this pond and when they lost a tank they just booked it as breake off for spares or something so they wouldn´t have to go through the buerocratic nightmare of losing a tank.

Because he refused to get out, or never responded to the authorities. The only option left was to use bold cutters on the hatch and shoot him.

Lucky for the crews the when the Russians did snorkel training, they used an over sized snorkel that the crew could escape to the surface through if they got struck. However they normally then sent down divers to hook up a cable and drag the thing back with a couple ARV's.

In Germany there where several cases of drivers getting up behind Leo 2's, and while the heat didn't melt there fronts, they got way to close under the overhang while the tanks where moving. The result was the tank tracks catching the fender or in some cases the whole front of the car, lifting it up and crushing it against the tank's chassis and mudguards.

LOL! I would really like to see that. About the best thing I ever saw, after it happened, was when I worked at an amusement park. One of the guys in another warehouse section parked a Ford Ranger on the railroad tracks. When the train that circles the park came around the corner, it hit the truck at about 5 miles an hour.

What an embarassing incident. There were guests on the train.

 And this guy didn't even notice? I'd pay someone to see that!

Did you ever see that episode of The Simpsons where the new megastore opened, and Bart put a penny on the little kid's train track, and the train derailed?

That's a lame-ass excuse. They could have just broke the hatch and clobber him over the head. Unless he had a gun in there...then I don't blame them.

No I dont remember that episode but im sure ive seen it. Of course the guy who parked the truck got fired that day. It really was not the fault of the train driver because the train comes around a corner and could not stop in time.

It is not easy to climb inside a tank and clober someone on the head, if I recall correctly he kept trying to get the tank off the divider. So they had to shoot him otherwise he might have driven back into traffic again.

Didn't they close off the highways near the tank? If they didn't, THEY deserved to get shot!

Its not that easy to close a freeway in California. I believe they shutdown the side he was on, but not the otherside.

For example a tank rolling down city streets in downtown San Jose, would only be a few minutes away from several different major freeways. Closing them all at once, would be really tough to do.
