NASA did develop a pen for space. However the reports of it costing hundred of thousands or even millions of dollars are totally false. In fact it cost a couple thousand. Corporate CEO's buy single pens for more then that.Hyperion wrote:actually no it isn't. ever seen the "fischer space pen" that's what NASA spent millions developing... the russians used pencils, for real.Sea Skimmer wrote:Now that I know is an Urban Legend.weemadando wrote:Oooh! Those USAF ones remind me of a classic. NASA spending a shitload of cash and time developing a pen that would work in zero-G. While the Russians just used pencils.

Japan has made some odd stuff. My favorite is the chest-mounted, strap-on sack of milk that was advertised as the "Daddy Nurser."neoolong wrote:Yeah, there's a whole book on useless Japanese inventions. 'Dumb' or not, pet clothing has a use in some climates. Waterproof shoes for dogs make a lot of sense in areas where road salt is used in winter -- the salt hurts their paws. Insulated coats are also useful when walking excessively-groomed or short-haired dogs in winter weather.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi wrote:Also, I think any clothing for pets is dumb.
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

Not quite true and not quite false...
You know, that can sum up SW vs ST in a way. Atleast as its portrayed in Operation Rescue on ASVS archive. SW uses cheap, easy to fix things like lighting with flourescent lights, where as ST uses weird high tech expensive lights.

There's something dumb that isn't an invention, but rather an idea: table etiquitte. There's only one way you can hold a spoon, you have to put the fork and spoon to one side of the plate, you have to keep your elbows off the table... Who gives a damn! I find it easier to put my elbows on the table and hold a spoon whichever way I want!
