Post by guyver »

With all the news storys on shootings. I thought it would be a good idea to put up a poll and see what the group thinks.

You might want to read the news story listed below:

Neither.

A gun is simply a tool that can be used for both good and evil intent.

EDIT: You might want to add a "Neutral" or "Neither" option, BTW.

True but do you think that they are a good tool. (the weak can defend themselves)

or

A bad tool, that never should have been made.

I know people can kill each other using other things.

Edit:Good point I should have had a third option.

Guns don't kill people, Bullets Do, Guns just provided an easy method of release and a safty Factory

You can fire bullets with nothing more than a Hammer and A Board with pre-drilled Holes in it and easily kill people

Secondly a well armed Populas sure as hell slows down crimes and Criminals, To use the Classic Anaolgy, The Mugger does not attack the Cop walking his beat, he attacks the little old lady using the ATM

In Countrys with heavy gun ownership and training there is very little street-crime as the avarage punk will think twice when doing a hesiest if half the people on the street are Packing

Classic example is the Texas bankrobbers who where foiled when they walked in yelled everybody down they where met with drawn guns as both the Tellers and the Customers where armed

Its the old idea of detterance, with a well armed and well trained popluas much of the normal crimes decrease, on the flip side crimes of passon become more prevently fatel but not nessarly more prevelant

I support some measures of IDing and forcing people to be take classes before purchasing, best case I want them to have fired over 100 rounds at the range with thier chosen gun type under the supervision of proffesionals(Former Military, Specifcly Marines or Army would be best)

However "Banning" or Forbiding Guns I'm strongly aginst as one can just as easily kill somone with a 9mm as with a .44 or .50, the later makes it easier, "Cop-Killer" bullets are nothing new, A shot to the throat from a .22 or in the Arms in Legs will just as easily stop someone with Kevlar as will a .44 strait through the vest

What most fail to remeber is that even with Kevlar a .22 To the chest is the KE equivlant of being hit with a baseball bat

So yes on certiant forms of gun control(Training, Unique ID such as is used with Cars) but NOT Banning

I own a few guns and I think that they are a good thing. I couldn't kill deer as easily without a gun, you know. The fact that I could also use them to kill an intruder in my house is just an added bonus.

Niether, the person behind the gun is either good or evil, the gun is merely a tool for making assault of another or defense easier...

Ditto that. Guns ar eneither good nor bad, unless you want to go through the morals of it.

Guns, like swords, were created for the sole purpose of killing, thus making them bad. However, they provided a more efiicient way of hunting, thus making them good.

It is the user, not the gun itself, that is good or bad.

A weapon cannot be good or evil.

With guns at least you have something effective to defend your home with.

And like many have said before, it's the person who kills, not the gun.

Neither. Guns are not good, but as long as other people have guns, you need them, too. They are bad, but necessary.

Have a very nice day.

Guns should remain legal and available to all. If guns become banned, what's to stop a potential murderer from getting a gun off the black market? Or using a knife? Or a home-made bomb? Making guns illegal wouldn't solve anything.

Neither would distributing them freely. That way, any psycho who wants a gun, gets it more easily. I think stricter background checks must be inplemented. If you are a law-abiding citizen, then you've got nothing to fear. If you're a felon or a psycho, you can't buy it legally.

Have a very nice day.

That's exactly the way I feel. But of course, the list of people I would want owning guns is much shorter than some people would probably like. For example, I don't see why anyone with a DUI should be able to own a gun; any idiot who can't drink responsibly shouldn't be trusted with a firearm IMHO. Similarly, I don't see why any fundie should be able to own a gun; anyone that despicably stupid should not be trusted with a gun, or for that matter, cutlery or even scissors.

True, and I do believe in thorough background checks. A minor inconvenience to the law-abiding citizen and a greater inconvenience to the criminal, and that's good in my book.

How would you devise a reliable system of determining stupidity, though?
