I was a bicycle mechanic for 5 years, does that count? My hands were never completely clean unless I'd been off work for a couple days.Red Star wrote:This is somewhat amusing to me but so far nobody is an any skilled trades aka: likes getting your hands dirty.
So, what do you DO?

Lusankya: Deal!
Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

Currently I'm doing a BSc in Computer Games design at Bolton University, but in all honesty, I don't see it leading anywhere and will probably chuck it in.
Other than that, I work at Game selling stuff, or at least did, till next week. After that, I'm going to apply for the same job at a Game store that's opening up closer to me.
I'm also in 2 metal bands, doing samples, vocals and general musical arrangement, the bands are called Morticide and In Pain Die. I should be learning guitar soon, too.
I'm also an artist and would like one day to create my own comic line, like Ennis' Preacher in scope.
I've also done various other jobs in my past, lots of IT and even one teaching job. I've also got a city and guilds qualification in welding.

If it means anything to you or the others I will say that I was a mechanic before I met my husband. I had to quit that job when I moved in with him 15 days before we got married, since he lived 2 hours away (driving distance).Red Star wrote:This is somewhat amusing to me but so far nobody is an any skilled trades aka: likes getting your hands dirty.
Me: I'm an apprentice for an industrial mechanic specializing in welding.
I would get back into it once my kids are in school full time but I have decided I don't like that profesion anymore because of all the sexist men in that particular trade. Yes I was sexually harrassed at my previous job.
So while I didn't mention it before (because it's not what I'm doing NOW) I did have a strong interest in getting my hands very dirty. If you notice I said I wanted to get into massage therapy and if you think about that it means I'll be working with my hands and getting them all oily So how's that

It is my duty to deal with arseholes, shitwits, fuckwits and wankers. I stop people doing whatever they want whenever they want. I get to prevent drunks going into places. I deal with shoplifters, I keep traffic from congesting, find lost children. Many people I deal with are potentially violent. I do the shitty work the police dont want to do/dont have time for.
I work security.

I work in Human Resources in a large public school district. My specific job title includes a software package that $ORG hasn't used in three years due to developing technology solutions internally. Among my duties are helping prospective teachers who are unwilling or unable to click (or comprehend) the "Instructions" link on our online application system, providing general support for that system to both internal and external customers (I prefer the term "clients"), working with our internal programmers regarding what annual enhancements to said system will best serve the $ORG, and running criminal background checks on applicants and volunteers. The best part of my job is the fact that I get to work with custom software; I don't know how rare this is generally speaking, but it's rather new to me. I get to tell people who get paid at minimum 3x what I do what I need to get the job done, and they do it, and if they don't I get to holler at their bosses. Also, I have a very hands-off boss which is, to put it mildy, wonderful.

I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and work for a company called Jacobs Engineering. While we have offices all over the world dealing with a variety of disciplines I work in the Houston office in Piping Engineering.
I am compelled to point out that despite working in Piping Engineering and having a company title of Piping Engineer that I am not, in fact, an Engineer. Officially I'm not considered an engineer until I get my license, which should be in about 4 and a half years. After I pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in April I will be considered and Engineer-in-Training. Then, 4 years after that I can take the PE and, assuming I pass that and meet certain other criteria, I get my license and then will become an engineer.
Okay, I'll shut up now.

When I'm not in school, I work for an independant contractor who does racking in the needle trade. We mainly build shelving, cutting tables, garment racks and pallet racking.
My plan at this time is to start a trade course in cabinet making in May. I was originally aiming for Electrician, but they have a two year waiting list, and I really don't have the time to wait that out.

Fourth year student of Marketing at the University of Gdansk. Yes, when I get my degree, I'll be the asshole trying to sell you all the useless stuff you don't need. And making good money out of it...
No, but seriously, I plan to take over the family business (importing of used computer equipment) some time in the future.

Currently in my third year in university studying for a Bachelor's Degree in IT part time, since I didn't go to one of these universeity things when I was younger. Currently barely making ends meet with freelance art (and some writing) in the RPG business. Also trying to sell my self-published children's e-books online... not doing too well that.

Second year (sort of) Enginerring Student at a local Comunity College (Transfered out of Kettering University after I couldn't take the preasure, and failed 3/5 classes last semester). I've spent the past 3 months Co-oping at Emerson Climate Technologies - Copeland Corp. Sidney Ohio, in the Global AC Comercial Scroll Engineering Division (My Title was "Electrical Engineering Co-op", the rest was from my boss's title).
In 9 months or so I plan to have my AAS so I can transfer to a four year school.
And I'm looking for an On-Campus job right now.

I'm a go-fer for the Consular Affairs department of Canada's Foreign Services. I do a lot of odd jobs, pull up research, type up reports, liaise with foreign officials, and help maintain Canada's image as the big friendly country everyone loves while secretly plotting world domination.

School-year (180 days/year), 7-hours/day on-site computer technician for 5 different schools in the school district I graduated from. I'm responsible for somewhere around 500 Windows-based computers.
I also tend to be the default 'technology' guy, so I do A/V stuff, too.
I get my hands dirty and bloody and covered in dust and ceiling-tile debris on a semi-regular basis, too.
And I do computer repair on the side.
I can't afford to move out of my parents' house, but I get more than 3 solid months of vacation!
