Live chatroom?

Post by Lord Sauron-Tyranus-Vader »

Who would like the addition of a live chatroom to SD.net?
Ups: faster flow of ideas and debating, allows better interaction
Downs: has to be heavily moderated

I dunno. I like the forums better because you actually have time to say something before somebody else interupts.

Adding one would be a mistake, and is unnecessary

Trust me, I chat live sometimes....and with 10 people it turns INSANE and you can hardly tell what is going on and who is saying what not to mention the text you are trying to read keeps scrolling up. That is with just 10 people, imagine 40 people. The only way I can see it working is if the conversations are mainly 1-1.

Honestly, it wouldn't be THAT big of a hog on resources. Its just a simple java app. To be perfectly blunt, this forum eats up more memory than a java chat room would.

That being said, a simple IRC server could be setup with relative ease.

I had thought of that before. Nothing that is attached directly to the boards or to SD.net. I can't remember where I saw them exaxtly but there were places that allowed that. Either way, I hear people going on that it's confusing, but then again, the msg boards are strange to me since on AoL for a few years instead of the boards, I'd be on chat rooms. Quite insane. heh.

It might be cool, but you can post your ICQ # or whatever messenger you use if wanted. If anything I would recomend an IRC channel.

Maybe as a companion to the boards. That way if some people want to debate something quicker they can take it to the chatroom. It's really up to Wong though.

Something else, the conversations would not be automatically saved on a live chat room.
