New Forum Proposal: Science Hobby and Tech Forum
I've been talking over IM to Hyperion, Kojikun, and Stormbringer about our various science experiments and devices, (Hyperion's coilguns and computers, Kojikun's Farnsworth Fusor, etc.) and we've come to realize we would like a forum for our and others' science hobbies. We can discuss our projects and link to other sites that are building these and other devices as well. Responses are strongly encouraged

Question is, is there enough demand? It sounds like the SLM board would be good enough, though flamethrowers would be needed to wash the trolls away.

Re: New Forum Proposal: Science Hobby and Tech Forum
The problem is, we already have the SLAM and OT forums for this sort of stuff. Creating a Science and technology forum could create confusion, especially among newbies who might wonder why we have two science forums.Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:I've been talking over IM to Hyperion, Kojikun, and Stormbringer about our various science experiments and devices, (Hyperion's coilguns and computers, Kojikun's Farnsworth Fusor, etc.) and we've come to realize we would like a forum for our and others' science hobbies. Now that may have some merit. The actual science stuff there tends to quickly get overwhelmed by a mass of creationism and morality debates. However, would a purely science/technology and scientific/engineering hobby forum generate any sort of meaningful traffic?Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Ok split the SLAM into Science and Logic/Morality forums :)

it would be a seriously reduced traffic, but most of us experimentor types don't have a good place to get together and discuss our projects and ideas, especially anywhere where the threads will stay visible more than 10 minutes before being covered with 2 pages of junk.GrandMasterTerwynn wrote:Now that may have some merit. Very true, very true. And then again, we have an Artwork and Photos forum that doesn't generate much traffic. I'm all for the splitting of SLAM into S and LAM. Unfortunately I'm not the one you need to convince. Have any of you PMed Wong on this matter yet?Hyperion wrote:it would be a seriously reduced traffic, but most of us experimentor types don't have a good place to get together and discuss our projects and ideas, especially anywhere where the threads will stay visible more than 10 minutes before being covered with 2 pages of junk.GrandMasterTerwynn wrote:Now that may have some merit. I probably couldn't contribute much more than a Rube Goldberg mousetrap ala Micheal Keaton in Nightshift, but it sounds like hella fun brain food.
lol, at least that's more useful than my laserguns and portable laser engraving unit...
of course then again do we really want the people on this board to know how to make microwave guns and other nastyness... YES!
and then of course there was my scrapped fission core project... (couldn't get fuel)

I think splitting SLAM into S and LAM would be the best idea, lots of interesting stuff does tend to get buried rather quickly in the OT or SLAM froums. It wouldn't need to be limited to just experimenters, it could be used for military discussions too or something and "S&M" forum if you will...

YEs, splitting it would be best. Especially since the fundie trolls wouldn't have much reason to go there anyway. That would keep at least one more section of the boards pure and unsullied by stupidity.
