Tetanus

half a week ago i cut myself with when building a model at the uni. it was a small but pretty deep cut and i was bleeding like a pig. it wasnt anything bad, it didnt hurt so i didnt think much about it. then some body asked if my tetanus shot was still valid. i had no clue, went home and looked it up in the little book in which the shot update dates are put down. it was valid til 2001. so i thought i´ll just go to the doctor next day and get a new shot. then i looked up tetanus in the internet and found out that if you have tetanus and are not immunized against it a shot wont help. you can be treated but 1/3 still die.
damn, never in my life have i been so scared.
today i went ot the hospital to ask what to do. the nurse gave me shot and the doctor said that the shot works, because i´ve got the base immunity from the shots that you get as a child. only if you dont have this basic immunity it´s a 30% chance of dieing. YEEEHAW!!!

Funny story, when I was travelling and I was getting all my shots, one of my aunties said; make sure you get your tetanus shot! I didn't have the heart to tell her that I have as much chance as catching tetanus here as I do anywhere else...
