Well I was getting into a conversation with my immedate supervisor about Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, & John Lennon.
So who would you say amoung musicians really has created a "Middle Class" blues?

The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin

You forgot Hank Sr.!
Springsteen is probably the most definitive these days, but I voted for Dylan, as he really brought the blues to the masses when they were looking for something beyond the bublle gum pop of the early sixties. Cash is a strong runner up though too.
OT: have you heard Cash's cover of that Nine Inch Nails song Hurt? Pretty cool.

Though I'm not a fan of blues, regardless of the class, I have to go with Johnny Cash. Here are my brief reactions to the various candidates:
Dylan: Technically good, but not interesting or fun to listen to.
Lennon: He's a good songwriter, but he doesn't sing or play particularly well. Entirely overrated.
Springsteen: Just doesn't sound good to me.
Cash: Fun, well-written songs, plus his voice sounds cool (which is more than I can say for the others)

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'
