Firearms was the best although I also kinda liked Day of Defeat.

Oh, yes, that one. Any of Neil Manke's mods are excellent; Valve really ought to hire him.

As an aside, I finally got Half-Life running stably, but it meant severely underclocking my CPU--I'd been running it at normal speed of 1.53GHz, but had to bump it back to 1.1GHz. *fumes*
