Penn State, getting a big win over Tennessee. They looked pretty good. Bright things are in store for them, methinks.

Dwayne Jarret is a thug.

As a huge buckeye fan, I can safely say this was the first time a M*ch*gan loss upset me.

Well, the Wolverines just laid themselves out like rugs for USC in that second half. What a disappointing performance.

If Calvin Johnson goes to the draft, I actually hope Dwayne Jarret goes first. I don't want Calvin Johnson going to the Raiders.

It almost sickens me thinking about him having to deal with Randy Moss and his ego....

And Boise State proceeds to choke in probably the biggest game in their school's history.

For those who didn't see. They let Oklahoma drive almost unhindered to score with under 2:00 to play, followed by a brutal 2 point conversion attempt that took three tries to play out. Forst BSU was penalized, then Oklahoma, and then Oklahoma scored from 7 yards out on the second attempt.

So what do the Broncos do with plenty of time for a game winning drive? Their QB Zabransky throws an Interception on the first play returned for a touchdown. They've gone from being 8 up to 7 down in a span of under two minutes of game time. Orange Clad football teams are having a terrible weekend.

I would love to see the shitstorm that will happen if UF beats OSU in the championship game.

What a great F'ing comeback! I'm not too ashamed to eat a little crow on this one, I honestly thought they were done and I was proved wrong. If I were a Sooners fan I would be puking up blood right about now.

ADDENDUM:

And Kudos to me for my foresight. My DVR cache had the last 6:00 of regulation and all of OT without me even asking it, I went ahead and saved all that for later reviewing. Damn fun to re-watch.

Yep, I turned the TV off right after that, too. Don't feel bad. I just wanted to see the final score on the net before I went to bed and

OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD
OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD

I caught the 2pt conversion in overtime. And then the BSU running back proposing to his (cheerleader) girlfriend right after the game.

Best bowl game I've ever seen, by far.

That was the most exciting Bowl game I have ever seen. The first, huge comeback by Oklahoma would've been a terrific finish, with three two-point attempts finally capped by the interception returned for touchdown. THEN you have the game essentially locked up, with a fourth-and-fathoms to go and an INCREDIBLE hook-and-lateral play (I've never seen one like that before--if it starts with the standard 5-yard pattern then it goes nowhere), then the Peterson run in OT, and the HUGELY gutsy play-calling of the Broncos continued, with a quarterback split out as a receiver on a pivotal fourth-down play that went for a TD followed by the ridiculous 2-point conversion trickery for the win. Amazing.

I don't know if Michigan is better than USC (though with the way Dwayne Jarret was playing I'd say 'no way'), but they were certainly better than that. The O-line was just awful. Henne was getting sacked on three step drops, for chrissakes. Mike Hart was getting run down in the back field. Then Jarret took over in the second half. God, what an awful day.

My disgust with the Wolverines caused me to proclaim that football was dead to me (not something I plan to hold to) and I missed what sounded like a great game between Boise State and Oklahoma. Yipee.

Hear Hear. Especially when you look at the fact that Both teams repeatedly converted 4th downs so late. Boise St was 4th and 18 when they scored the tying touchdown at the end of regulation, 4th and 2 when they scored in OT.

Whoopidedoo. Another Michigan team gets trounced in the Rose Bowl. Carr was just honoring Schembechler's legacy by laying an egg last night. Coming out flat in crunch time football games is starting to become a Lloyd Carr trademark, here. Carr has always had solid, talented teams, but outside of '97 he sure does have a long history of losing must-win games.

And there's another bowl loss for Mr. Wonderful, Brady Quinn. Ho hum. Now JaMarcus Russel, he turned in a very impressive performance. I'd pick him over Quinn to lead my NFL squad ten times out of ten.

The second half of the Sugar Bowl was so lopsided, for a bit there I thought the LSU Fans were going to go about as limp as the ND Defense. How many times did we hear "Brady Quinn" and some synonym for "uncharacteristic". I have nothing against him personally but his checkbook is going to hugely benefit from the Irish Hype Machine (at least for the last 15 years anyways) that spawned such great NFL quarterbacks such as Rick Mirer, Ron Powlus, and Jarious Jackson.

Note, the above statement has a touch of irony since my favorite all time NFL player is Joe Montana, but that was back in 1979 when Notre Dame football was far more relevant.

Even the classic Stanford/Cal game all those years ago?

It beats The Big Game for all non-Stanford non-Cal fans, because in The Big Game, it's theoretically a match of equals. For fans of either of those teams, of course that iteration of The Big Game was bigger.

If you want to talk about one play, though, The Play was the biggest of all.

Wow, that was a lot of in-sentence capitalization.

Notre Dame actually had a chance to come back in the third quarter and take the momentum. Their defence had held two LSU drives to field-goals and they were down by only 6. Then JaMarcus Russel worked his voodoo and that's when it became hopeless. The Irish played well enough through a good chunk of the Sugar Bowl, but the plain fact was that Les Miles and the Tigers wanted that game and they weren't going to be stopped. LSU had the post-Katrina emotional factor going for them when they hit the Superdome floor and never let up.

One question left over from last night's BCS game: where was Ohio St.?

Though the huge layoff and the loss of Ginn right out of the gate hurt them, in the end Florida's spread offense (alongside other trickery and razzle dazzle) overwhelmed the Buckeyes. Really, what Florida did to Ohio State looks so much like what Ohio State did to Michigan. Go four/five wide on every play and someone underneath will get open.

We didn't see the Buckeyes perform at their best, which is unfortunate, but the Gators are the champions, and deservedly so.

Yet they still get the number 2 spot for the year. God i hate the fucking BCS. Now that the gerrymandered schoolboy wankfest is over, it's time to watch REAL football playoffs.
