Better Singer?

Post by Straha »

Is there a better singer all around then David Bowie. I don't mean in just one area but totally better. I can't think of any, and if you give him the Spiders as a Band all will bow to him

Bono from U2 has a pretty impressive voice. Certainly a worthy challenge to Bowie.

His range is awsome. You must be listening to something cool today, senor Straha.

Elvis Presley.

And IMO, lots. I don't rate Bowie much as a singer, atch.

Tori Amos, among others.

She can do anything from Nirvana, Zeppelin, Slayer, and Eminem songs to Elton John, John Lennon, and Neil Young songs and everything in between and then some. Her own songs also cover a huge range of styles that's mindboggling.

Chantal Kreviazuk - She can do U2, Bob Marley, John Denver and the Stones songs as well as her own stuff. She doesn't have as great a range of styles as Tori (who does?) but she still kicks Bowie's ass.

Both these singers are perfectly comfortable doing soft acoustic stuff, rocking out, doing reggae or jazz grooves, or singing a capella. Let's see Bowie do that!

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P

Elvis??? You need to expand your musical horizons a little. I won't go so far as to say Bowie's the greatest voice on the planet, but he is really effing great.

I believe today, January 8th, is David Bowie's birthday. I think he's 56 now. Anyway, I'm sure there are voices out there better than Bowie's. I just haven't heard them.

Axl Rose is a VERY good singer. He goes from hard rock (Welcome to the Jungle) to soulful ballads (November Rain). Very nice range. Bitchy rock star attitude unfortunately.

I'm also partial to Michael Jackson. Love the music, think the dude is just too freaky for me to defend anymore.

Are we talking voice as in pure voice quality--timbre, resonance, etc? Or, the entire package: range, style, musicianship, flexibility...?

Either way, I don't see David Bowie being anywhere near the top of the list. Sorry. Yes, he is very talented, but there are many others who surpass him, in my opinion.

Are you seriously saying Bowie has a better voice than Elvis?

Go sit in the corner and actually listen to the King <points>

Bowie has a very nice voice, but he has a lot of stuff done to it before you get to hear it. My wife is a sound recording engineer, and while in school they played one of his songs and found at least 4 things done to his voice. I'm willing to bet he would sound totally different if you heard him sing unamplified.
