Video Tech question

Post by Stravo »

I just got a cable modem last week and I've started downloading large files for the first time, since I've been stuck with dialup most of my life. I recently downloaded a lot of video and I got the brilliant notion of putting it all on a VCD so I can watch it on my DVD player. I have Easy CD Creator which purports to be able to create a VCD. Well, I've tried several times to burn the video onto the VCD with the Easy CD Creator and the DVD player won't read it nor will my computer's DVD player read it.

Is there something I'm doing wrong, or does the program just suck? I went windowshopping at CompUsa and saw some nice video software but I'm not sure if I should make the investement unless someone here can recommend a progran that will allow me to burn the videos I download onto a VCD or better yet DVD. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind I'm a total novice at this so there may be some things that you may take for granted that I certainly don't.

Thanks in advance!

Can another CD rom read it? A DVD should be able to read VCD disk's. Mine can. Used to be you needed software to play VCD's.

The video has to be in MPEG-1 format. Also, Easy CD Creator is shit. If you want to use VCD's, get VCDEasy. It's freeware and it works great. Just Google it.

Both. Get TMPGEnc to encode your own MPG files from other formats, VirtualDub to mess around with files, do editing, etc., and the aforementioned VCDEasy to do the burning.

There's a page on my personal website about this.
