"I'm doing this for your own good" was the biggest lie I was told. Number two was "Of course Santa is real".

Apart from the christian stuff I had to put up with, with my father being a priest the worst was when we moved house two years ago. I said that I would be happy to move on several conditions (bolts removed from bedroom doors, more power points, 2nd phone line in my room, respect for my pirvacy etc.) My pare said yep sure thing. Whilstnot honoring any one of the conditions, and in fact never intending on honoring those conditions.

My parents telling me Santa Claus existed. When I began questioning how he could get into our house without a chimmy, she gave ridiculous answers like "Oh, he came through the toilet."

One look at the size of the toilet pretty much abolished my belief in him... Then there was that occasion where Santa wrote very bad Chinese in my Mom's handwritting.

About the lies, aside from the regular Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, lies about sex, blah blah blah, I don't think there's anything else my parents are hiding from me. There's things in the past that happened to them before I was born that they don't like to talk about, but that's understandable. I got around this basically by going to the other parent alone and asking what exactly happened. One incident was when my father was a kid, he was burning a rubber mask on a stick. Yeah, I know, wtf? lol So what happened was that it was really windy and the mask blew onto his face when it was still on fire and melted. He had to get plasitc surgery because his face basically melted with the mask. I never knew that up until very recently...I'm not sure how much of his face was changed or anything, or if he would even look at all like he does now. I suppose it wasn't as bad as you would imagine, because he looks like a normal guy. There isn't anything strange about how his face looks. The other incident had to do with a conflict betwen my mother and her two brothers. After my grandparents died, there was some argument about the will and stuff like that. We used to be very close and I would always go visit them with my family in the city many times. But after this whole ordeal, we haven't really done anything with each other for a long time. It was only two years ago (2001) that we started to get together again...I'm not sure what it was that brought us together again...but that doesn't matter. We're seeing each other much more often like we've done in the past, and getting together with those that you love is always a good thing.

I think my parents followed the neither confirm nor deny approach. Either that or the issues being discussed in this thread never came up in the first place.

Though the santa claus thing is a major one that my parents neither confirmed nor deny.

All of these issues I either found out for myself, or I applied my agnostic attitude to them.

My parents never really lied to me, they always asked me if I wanted them to lie to me or not. I always chose the truth
