A little googling seems to indicate food poisoning on Tuesday, 10k race on Friday.

So not so much during the race, I would think.

Yeah, less impressive, but it probably did still have a bit of an effect on her.

Now I know that getting a medal at all in the Olympics is a pretty impressive feat, but that's still third place. Is it too much to ask that they stop showing her parading around wearing the flag over her shoulders and give ten seconds of screen time to the people that beat her?
Trust me, American wank is nothing next to the China wank we get in Hong Kong. Must be worse on the mainland too.

Was she sick with food poisoning during her event? Cause getting a bronze is pretty freaking impressive if so, it can be hard to get out of bed with food poisoning a lot of the time.
This ESPN article goes into some of the reasons why her winning is sort of a big deal. At least for American distance racers.

Still, I can just imagine the nauseating way that NBC went about masturbating to he story. :x

It's a good story. It doesn't need to tacked on hype, hyperbole or out and out BS.

I was mostly interested in the 100m track. I still haven't gotten a chance to see a rerun but I hear we dominated both men and women event :D

Beach volleyball is clearly eye candy for the guys. The women are in bikinis with tiny low-cut bottoms which are barely a step above thongs while the men are in sleeveless shirts & swim trunks. I'm not asking the guys to wear speedos (though that might be nice) but can't they at least go topless and show off their bodies a bit? It's so unfair, even Baywatch has topless guys.

Plus, I'd like it a bit better if they didn't focus almost exclusively on the Americans in the game. Hell, in several of the beach volleyball games, I didn't even get a close-up of the other team, even when they were serving (US vs. Japan game), though, to be fair, I didn't watch that game in its entirety.
I've seen them focus on the other team in beach volleyball quite a few times.

And the gymnastics were pretty well split between showing the Chinese and Japanese teams, as well as the Americans, for that team male gymanstics thing. A damn shame those two US guys screwed up at the last event...the last dude was damn amazing, but it wasn't enough to save their chances at a silver; getting first was simply out of the question, as China dominated the fuck out of that event. Though it was cool that they were temporarily in first for a little bit. But China quickly put them in their place in the very next set.
