Rant: Annoying Hypochondriacs, plus more

Post by Nathan F »

GAH! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!

In my dorm, every tuesday, our bathrooms get cleaned. The way our dorms are set up, two dorm rooms share a bathroom. Well, the lady that cleans these bathrooms is, uhm, odd to say the least. Take last Tuesday, for example, I was sitting there studying for a test, and she comes up banging on my door saying 'Houskeeping!'. So, I get up, walk to the door, and open it. She asks if it is alright to clean my bathroom, and I say "Sure, thanks alot." And I return to studying. Well, instead of cleaning my bathroom, she comes over, sits on MY BED behind my desk, and starts babbling on about how she has pneumonia and stuff, and suddenly, starts talking like she her throat is so sore she can't speak (mind you, this is after she had already been talking in a normal voice). So, kind of at a loss as to what to do ( didn't want to tell her to just up and leave), I kind of half listen and do my best to hint that I really need to study. Finally, she decides to get up and go clean the bathroom and leave. Thing is, she ALWAYS comes through my room, and not my suitemates, so I have to put up with this EVERY friggen Tuesday, and sometimes more.

It is like this almost every week. There is always something wrong that she has to complain about (she has had the flu, heel spurs, and pneumonia in the last three weeks, apparently). And she has to go into the details about it to. Quite, uhm, odd at times.

But, needless to say, it is getting incredibly annoying.

Anybody have any idea as to what I can do about this?

Oh, and while I'm at it, I am getting majorly pissed at these idiots who bounce a basketball up and down the halls at 1AM and who like standing outside my door at 3AM talking (the walls are incrediebly thin, and they talk so loud I cannot get to sleep).

Any suggestions as to how to take care of this problem (blasting loud redneck or hard rock music doesn't work, I've tried ;))

Talk to housing services and complain.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

Well, I would clean my own bathroom, but this comes in the housing contract. I am living in a school dorm, and they assign this to us. Nothing I can really do about it.

And, I would do that Mike, but, I would probably trip over it on the way to the door. Hehehe, bad innuendo for the day, right there...

You know what? People don't flip each other off enough.

Rather than violence, or complaining behind someone's back, or endlessly shouting unpleasantries back and forth, think about HOW much better the world would be if disagreeing parties all lined up like 18th century British soldiers and flipped up creative and wildly dramatic versions of the State Bird of Texas, then called it quits and went for a beer.

Lesson: Make more use of your middle finger. People pay attention to upraised middle fingers and they always know what you mean. And there's also the chance that they'll get worried that you didn't bother to explain yourself and wander away - more than a few people think an upraised middle finger is a truly pissed-off person's version of a First and Final Warning.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Find out who they are and arrange similar treatment for them. Especially the night before something important, so they won't sleep well before it.

People running around making a lot of noise at 1 AM are probably breaking dorm rules, so why not lodge a formal complaint?

Alternatively, since these people are obviously night-owls, they probably sleep in late. So wake 'em up early in the morning.

Cleaning lady, well although it might be bugging you it might be helping her just to have someone to talk to.

As for the idiots at 1AM, range of methods, though sometimes just going and asking them to quit it helps...otherwise go out, grab the basketball and tell them they can have it back when they've learnt to grow up!

Alternatively, you could go out with a big-ass knife, take the ball, shank it, and go back in.

Thing is, the RA (Resident Assistant, person who is supposed to keep a semblance of order on the dorm floor) sometimes makes as much noise as they do. I have more than once considered going to the residence hall manager and filing a complaint with her.

As to waking them up, hehehe, already taken care of. My suitemate (ironically, the RA) has a bad habit of playing his guitar all hours of the night or listening to loud movies/music at 3 or 4am. Needless to say, if I can wake up early enough, I wake him up to by takind a nice, long, hot, and loud, shower.
