funny, Portal was the first vs. fic i ever read. After reading it i thought "wow, that was cool!" and i emailed that Gramme Kennedy guy and asked him if he planned on writing a sequel. the response was and rather defensive. THEN I discovered SD.net and boy did that serve up a cold dish of reality check.
