Now what I want to know is, are they talking about the FTC before this bill passed or after? If it's after, it's not much improvement: the most aggressive and obnoxious telemarketing calls I get are from the long distance companies (they literally will not take no for an answer, not even when you interrupt them three times in the space of a minute to say it.) Unfortunately, answering the phone is an ingrained habit for me from years of temping. I look forward to having Caller ID again so that I'll know when I don't want to pick up the phone. The FTC has limited authority to police telemarketing calls from certain industries, including airlines, banks and telephone companies.
Free speech as in calling me just to sell something? Seems like the Direct Marketing Association is trying to stretch the definition. The Direct Marketing Association, an industry group, filed a lawsuit against the FTC last month on grounds that the registry unlawfully restricts free speech.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might if they screamed all the time for no good reason.

Free speech my ass. What's so funny, is when they tried to get internet porn banned, people were on the porn side. Now the telemarketers are up the creek.
