Did anyone catch this special?
I felt very confused through out. From the start that felt it needed to recap modern Sherlock before doing an Victorian version. The reason for this did become apparent later but the advertising had given me the impression it was entirely unrelated to the main series. So I was as I said confused especially as I never saw the third series of Sherlock proper.
Still it moved along at decent clip and didn't seem to drag for a 95 minute episode, and the smugness of Sherlock (and moffat's writing) that dove me off in series 2 seems to have be diluted a bit by other characters. So it was watchable if nothing else.

It was an entertaining, if confusing, romp, I'll say that much. And it did connect back to the present-day events much more than I thought it would be.
Also, Mycrofts comments about the suffragettes are quite amusing indeed when you first hear them without knowing who they refer to. And of course Watson's immediate conclusion that this "enemy at our elbows" that "we must lose to" is, in rough order, Socialists, Anarchists or the French. Maybe the Serbians.

Baltar: "I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!"
Centurion: "Sir, I really think you should look at the other Battlestar."
Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."
Corrax Entry 7:17: So you walk eternally through the shadow realms, standing against evil where all others falter. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again.

Did Watson actually mention Suffragettes in his list? I think Mycroft deflected him at that point, talking about Paranoia rather than flat out saying 'no' as he had to the others. It seemed pretty obvious that it was going to be them to me.

I can't recall him mentioning Suffragettes, though I suppose he could count the more radical of them as Anarchists of some form.
Pretty much as soon as Holmes said there was only one broken window and only one possible suspect I thought the wife would be the killer (in that case anyway).

I think it's a brilliant episode.
Humans are such funny creatures. We are selfish about selflessness, yet we can love something so much that we can hate something.
