Actually, I wouldn't recommend watching Road; though it does deal with Kellog, it isn't worth watching. It took me ten hours to watch it. One hour to an arbitrary stopping point, eight hours of sleep and then I just had to know if there was anything valuable so I watched the rest of it.

As far as this kid is concerned: I'd bet public masturbation are the least of his problems. There may be something more serious going on at home or elsewhere in his life that he can't cope with. Public humiliation seems to feed him, or at least doesn't seem to bother him. At any rate, there's nothing we can do to him or for him from here.

Um.... One question? Why would you let the schools teach your children about this. Personally, I think certain aspects of human sexuality are best adressed outside of the classroom and away from peer pressure. I intend to handle this aspect with my son. That way, I know what he's learning and hopefully he'll think to ask me questions that he'd be too shy to ask about in a roomfull of his peers.

Agreed. However, CommandoJoe is obviously one of those people who has psychological issues with it, and so is not capable of speaking comfortably about the subject with his children (thus bequeathing those issues to them). I'd hazard a guess that most people are like that in this country, which is one of the reasons that so many teenagers learn about sex from either school or pornography (most likely pornography in many areas, since most school sex ed programs are neutered by paranoid educators for fear of offending local puritans).

I admit it, I'm probably not going to comfortable talking about these things with my father (Bob knows, my father certainly wasn't when he tried.) But I think that, as a responsible parent, that I should be the one to do it for a number of reasons.

1. To try and get rid of the hang-ups involved when talking about this with my children. My father came from a very conservative Lutheran family, and this was just not mentioned until it was "Time for the Big Talk." Problem was, that by that "Time" I'd already heard enough from my peers (right or wrong) to formulate my ideas on sexuality. Plus my father's silence on the issue only served to push tohose ideas farther into my mind. (I had some pretty fucked up ideas on sexuality when I was younger, mainly from my peers.) And I don't want to see my son developing some of my hangups (and certainly none of my ideas! )

2. This subject should NOT be left up to strangers to perform. Especially strangers hired by the school board and subject to their policies. My son's going to be confused enough going through puberty without the schoolboard giving him their politically correct, schoolboard approved, sterile version of the subject. I would rather make sure that he absorbs an attitude along with learning the basic mechanics. It's not the schoolboard's job to teach values and morality, it's mine. In my opinion to many parents are letting the schools raise their children for them, then blame them when things go wrong.

Mr. Garrison. At least Chef has some experience, so he knows what he's talking about :)

That reminds me of my other pet peeve: school sex ed programs discuss sex only in the most mechanical terms. They tell you what a condom is for (assuming you live in a "liberal" area, otherwise they just tell you to abstain for Christ), and they show you human anatomical diagrams or where the various organs are. Wow, how informative.

Fuck that ... a teenaged kid needs to know more useful stuff, like where the G-spot is, what "clitoral stimulation" is, how to talk a girl into anal, etc. Girls need to be taught how to use their tongues during fellatio, etc. That's why I propose that the sex education teaching method from Monty Python's "A Meaning of Life" becomes standard practice at all high schools :)

Agreed. Teens need to be taught about stuff that can actually -help- them with in sex, not reporting statistics on birth control methods and how to "slip a condom on". Big deal, it's not that hard, instructions are given on the package for shit's sake.

Teens need to be informed of the important, underlying stuff like why it's NOT smart to stick something into her vagina after it's been in her ass, and all the nasty infections she can get from it.

Whether or not Mike is simply being facetious here, I think he's got a point. Too many kids dive into sex without having the slightest clue what to do, and their first time isn't anywhere near as good as it could be. The only kinds of sexual techniques that they may learn prior to actually having sex come from pornography, and let's face it, there are a whole lot of dirty, disgusting, home-made, make-a-gynecologist-hurl porn flicks out there, especially on the internet. If maturing boys start getting the idea that girls like having a penis rammed up their asses without any kind of preparation or prior consultation, it will only serve for a negative sexual experience. This goes for virtually any kind of sexual position or maneuver. Dispelling the "Who's your daddy!" visions of sex encouraged by lots of low-budget porn is arguably just as necessary as teaching kids how to use condoms.

Kids don't just need to be taught about having safe sex; they need to know how to have good sex, as well. Having a positive sexual experience the first time out will serve to show kids what sex is all about and under what circumstances it should be done. It would also help to reduce rape and other violent crimes against women. When it comes to such things, trial and error just isn't a good approach, nor is it the only possible one.

This won't happen, of course, but it is a good idea.

And Mike, you are the man for the job.

I hereby plead for you to go forth and inseminate the Canadian education system with your fertile vision. With any luck, Sex Ed will become the most highly thought-of class in school, and such ideas might even spread globally, which can only be a good thing. Though I do wonder if the school is going to have hands-on practice or just multiple choice essays. I hope for the former alternative, in which case I'll probably be taking a long time to perfect my techniques.

Anyway, this suggestion is long overdue and will no doubt change the face of the world. We'll have to nuke everything south of Ottawa of course, as they will no doubt interfere, but that's just icing.

This future has got me very excited.

Man I don't know...it would have to be the right teacher(s) to do it. Some of the teachers I had could scar you for life if you were forced to sith through that!
