actually, that was infatuation for me.Shinova wrote:Love. Hmmm..... what is love? Hmmm.....
The two of you get into an argument so nasty that the two of you are almost literally at each other's throats. You each get totally fed up with the other and separate, going off to your respective homes or similar residences and staying there for the night, away from the other.
And then you suddenly really miss that other person and really want to see him/her again.
That's love.

Sorry...hijack.
Thanks, I found it thanks to Shinova. I thought with all this crazy weather, I'd start celebrating the sunny weather that will eventually arrive...
So, are you in love with my new avatar or merely infatuated with her?

No, that's Hollywood love. It bears no resemblance whatsoever to the real thing. Love which is punctuated by a rollercoaster of alternating hate, anger, resentment, loss, and remorse is not love at all; it is dysfunctional possession.Shinova wrote:The two of you get into an argument so nasty that the two of you are almost literally at each other's throats. You know, it's funny. I keep trying to post something about how I know when I'm in love, and I have a hard time stating it well. Love is both so complicated and so simple that I feel like, no matter what I say, I don't do it justice with my words.

It's hard to get into this subject and try to describe it without getting poetic, so if this post initially appears in a half-finished state, you'll have to pardon me -- it means that I've vomited on my keyboard and had to go salvage it.
With that said, love is the emotional state achieved when your romantic attraction to another human being compels you to do things you are absolutely 110% sure will get you in trouble, leave you broke, make your friends laugh at you, and probably get you deported from your own country, for no better reason than that you want that person to be happy.
And when you discover that you have succeeded in making this other person happy, you could face down God, the devil and the U.S. Marines and laugh in their faces, because they don't have as much power combined as you do flowing through your veins at that moment.
Love is that thing that brings your lover's face to you in the dead of night, and makes you smile instead of feel alone.
Love will walk you through fire and not let the flames touch you.

I feel:
The minute you see that person you kind of shiver a little, the hair on the back of your neck stands up.
You look into their eyes and you just know "that's the person I want to be with. That's the person that I want to know. That's the person that makes me feel so undescribably wonderful. That's the person that give's me the energy and makes me feel like every morning is the best morning in the world."
That sounds like a lot, but it happens in just a split second.
I know, we've been together for nearly four years. ))))))))))))))))))
Love at first site, isn't about wanting sex at first site. It's that tingling, that strange feeling of belonging and that warmth. It's that want to be part of their life.
My opinion!

Love is when you realize you need her with you, and I don't mean in a sexual way. If you're alone, even just for a day, and you find yourself unhappy or unsatisfied because your mind keeps wandering off to how much better it would be with her beside you, that's generally a good sign.
It's when you realize that you need her, in body, mind, and in your future, that you love her. If you picture your fututre, and you literally can't do it without picturing her there with you, you're probably in love.
I had all this made brutally clear to me when Amanda moved down to Georgia before she died. I felt cheated, abused, helpless, hopeless, like everything was over. And it wasn't just that I was losing her, it was that I knew I was losing a huge piece of my future...a futer we'd intended to build together once college was over.
I found myself waking up and night, and pausing during the day, just suddenly thinking of her. I realized that I truly needed her, as though she were a part of me I couldn't live without, and when she wasn't there, I felt empty.
During college, I often told Amanda that I loved her, and she would say the same to me. We didn't know if it was love or affection or infatuation, but it was enough for us. It wasn't until that she'd left, or rather, taken out of my life, that I realized that I truly did love her. And when I went down to visit her, I told her that and I knew, goddammit I KNEW that it was true, and so did she.
And that's love. It sounds trite and might not answer your question, but you really DO know when it's love and when it's not. You might not even realize it at the time, but if you take some time to sort things out, you'll KNOW.

To say one more thing: There is very little that will inspire me to write poetry. One of those things is love. Love is a surefire way to get me to write.
In my experience, love is something that is unending, whether you break up with the person or not. Hell, I have not seen my first love in almost a year, now, but I still love him. He will always hold a place in my heart, however much I love Rob now..
Love is not something that can just be explained away as many other things can be. Love is something that you feel throughout your body, your entire self. It is something that you just know. If you are in love, being with whoever you are with will feel just right, and that they are indeed perfect for you, in personality moreso that looks.
If you want to try to know whether you are in love with someone, explain to that person how you feel. Explain to them what they mean to you, or write it down on paper. If you can see yourself in years' time, then you might very well be in love with that person. If you can see yourself taking care of that person in any sort of need they might have, then you might be in love with them.
I may be getting very poetic here, but sometimes that's the best way to explain it, and the best way to say it.

Ofcourse I guess it can be hard to separate love from infatuation sometimes.
Still, I don't think I can give an adequate answer.

Love is in the eye of the beholder.
I am madly in love with my just six-month girlfriend. I'll tell you how i know..
I would do ANYTHING, even kill myself to ensure her safety and well being.
When i think of something bad happening to her, i shiver really hard.
When something bad does happen to her, i comfort her, wait on her hand and foot, and even cry. I am a sixteen year old, mean son of a bitch... But when i think of her, my solid heart turns to marshmellow.
I cant even fathom purposely hurting her. Even when im as pissed as hell with her, the thought of insulting her or hurting her dosnt even cross my mind.
I cry at the realization that we'll have to break up someday.
I am so very proud of her for what she's accomplishing academically. If she must move on from me to follow her dreams, so be it.
I can talk to her about absolutely anything. She's the first to know if something is wrong with me.
She stays with me in spite of myself. She loves me, yeah, yeah, yeah!
She bitches at me endlessly to do good in school. She really cares.
I've even gave up some friends for her. (their choice, not mine or hers)
She's lactose intolerant, so i make sure she dosnt eat milk products without taking lactase.
And finally, we've been together six months, had sex a gajillion times, and due to anti-depressants, i've never had an orgasm during sex.. I dont care either.
Andrea Nicole Nero, I LOVE YOU!!!

I don't know.
I thought I was in love once, but I wasn't. It was just mutual infatuation, and we got over it fairly quick. I'm not sure if I haven't run into the right person and/or situation yet or what, but whenever I've felt protective of someone, it's ended up screwing us both up. The worst of it is when I see a friend who I care about dating someone who's totally wrong for them, and I can see it clearly, yet they cannot see that the other person doesn't care at all.
Sorry if it's a bit rant-ish, but one of my close female friends is getting a bit closer than I like with a guy who's a total jerk. Unfortunately, the two are in an organization together that I refuse to attend on general principle (the president really pissed me off one day, and I promised myself to never go back there again). *Sigh* Seven years I've known her and she still dates the worst people...
