Current State of Cartoons(non-cable ones)

Post by Anarchist Bunny »

First this is mostly a rant on how the quality of saturday cartoons have gone down.
FOX hasn't had a really good cartoon since Spiderman. And from what I see this season is gonna be utter FUCKING crap. Firstly they are bring back Ultraman, but it's the guy that did power rangers doing it and it's basicly just a replacement for power rangers. I know niether are cartoons I just wanna point out the death of power rangers that finally came after they jumped the shark at Zeo.

Then there is Kirby, Right Back at Ya. I'm a killer Kirby fan, I consider him up there with Mario, Link, and Megaman. And in the hands of the Japanese this could of been a good show. But it's just gonna be utter shit.

Stargate Infinity. *vomits with rage*

Fighting Foodons. OH. MY. GOD. Worst. Pokemon. Ripoff. Yet. It's about a kid that throws meal tickets on food to change them into fighters. Utter Crap.

Absolute Mucle. I think it's an anime, or the american attept of it. REALLY REALLY SHITTY DBZ meets WWE.

Shows like Rusty and Big Guy, Action Man, that DnD show, and almost no successful animes(Digimon season 2 up, Escaflowne, Monster Rancher, Mon World) is what killed FOX kids on weekdays.

On the other hand WB seems to do well with WB's other productions backing them up. For example they jumped on Pokemon and it's really helped them out a shit load. Also they got Yu-Gi-Oh which turned out to get good ratings, and some stronge non-animes like X-Men Evolutions, MIB, and Batman Beyond. Although Batman Beyond was too dark for WB with broken bones, blood, and implied satuatory relationship between batgirl and batman, and cursing substatute(Slag, Frag) WB had to drop it. (Is Cartoon Network funding new episodes?) And Jakie Chan Adventures. Which is what kept them on the weekday bracket.

But is it just me or has the quality of Saturday Cartoons just crapped out? I remember being able to watch X-Men, Spiderman, and other great shows when I was little. Or maybe it's cause I was little, but still.

Fox has been going downhill for years now. The only things holding them up are the simpsons and those reality shows.

I don't know its not as bad used to be at one point(3 hours of Digi-mon running opposite 3 hours of Pokemon at one point) but most of the good shows are good and gone(I miss-jacky, Anything with Chan is usaly a great hit even crap becomes almost crap when he's around :P)

Jackie Chan Adventures is still on. I really liked the ideas of the talismans based off the Chinese Zodiac, each with it's on unique power.

First of all, I thought Escaflowne rocked. But yeah, for years now FOX has crap. Hell, WB for the most part has crap too. It just happens to be better crap.

Then again, I don't watch the Sat Morning cartoons anymore, so I'm not up to date on what's happening. I may have outgrown them, or they're just that crappy, or both. I really only watch the new anime Transformers, and that will never hold a candle to G1, or even Beast Wars (mind you I grew up with Beast Wars, well for the whole 3 seasons anyway :P)

I also used to watch Pokemon too. Then I started sleeping in, or started watching other stuff, and missed out on too many plot lines to even barely comprehend whats going on anymore.

I will add however that I sympathise with Brock's woman problems 100% :D

I lost most faith in cartoons when Beevis and Butthead were gunned down in the incredible cop-out which ended their series.

I still love the Simpsons and Futurama, but even the immortal Simpsons have lost some of their edge (yeah, you'd think after fifty thousand episodes the quality would start to slip).

Are you saying that Big Guy and Rusty was bad? Cause that was probably the best comic to cartoon adaption, outside of anything by Warner Bros., that's been made in a long time.

The quality of network cartoons has always been complete shit, at least to me. Cartoon Network is so much better, especially after the institution of Adult Swim and Toonami.

Cartoon Network is like crack for me.

Fox blew it on a lot of the good cartoons it had because it kept trying to pump the ratings with more and more Pokeman, Pokemon like, Power Rangers, or Power Ranger like shows.

Escaflone was pretty good but got dropped too early. I also like Cyber 9 but they didn't let it devlope. Rusty & Big Guy was even better than the comic but it got screwed in the Pokemon glut. It came out then but wasn't given much of a chance and then they actually aired the show a year or so later (after all the toys tanked because no one had seen the show).

I thought the Godzilla cartoon was pretty entertaining most of the time but it also go dumped in favor of the Pokemon craze.

Jackie Chan Adventures is a great show.

I also like X-Men: Evolution although I wasn't sure about it at first.

The only good network cartoon is the simpsons. They had some great ones, God the Devil and Bob-cancelled because fundies attacked the studeo. Im not sure if futurama is still on. The family guy-Stewie is so fucking cool.

But I really like Invader ZIM, sure it isnt on fox but it is so funny

Futurama is still on, Matt Groening has FOX by the balls, the simpsons saved FOX and FOX will slowly die without it. Family Guy got canseled cause it was contriversal. FOX is trying to make a sift to Drama, but ALL of FOX's Drama's suck. (well except for bostin public, but I'm a high schooler and I like the show except for the teachers giving so much of a damn, and only one nazi administrator.) They canseled Greg the Bunny and Titus(one of the best live actions ever, only Married with Children is better).

I was wondering when the best show (Adult Swim) would be brought up. Not to mention the coolness of Toonami.

I just think it's sad. When I was a kid, there was a solid block of cartoons from 7 a.m. to noon on all three networks. Last week I was flipping through the channels around ten on a Saturday morning and none of the networks had cartoons. That is just wrong. I feel sorry for children today.

The rise of the infomercial pretty much killed the weekday and Saturday morning cartoon. Another fine example of TV executive thinking at work.

The WB and ABC still run Saturday morning cartoons, but yeah, the state of non-cable cartoondom is crap. Almost as bad as ST these days.

Toonami is what got me hooked on my favorite animes - Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star.

Inversely, it's also what made me sick of Dragonball Z. :P

Hmm, I seem to remember there being anime on during Saturday morning on Sci-Fi channel...

What?! THEY CANCELED TITUS?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU BASTARDS! YOU BLEW IT! GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!!!

*ahem*

Yeah, suckz that WB canned Batman Beyond. But I don't get what you mean by "implied statuatory relationship between Batman and Batgirl". If you're referring to how Barbara Gordon and Bruce Wayne get along, I always saw it more as a mentor/protegé thing. The only implied relationship I can think of was Terry and Melanie (Ten of the RFG).
