Morality of reading someone's weblog

Post by Alex Moon »

We had a discussion a while back about reading someone else's personal journal, and it was pretty much unanimous that it was a nono. However, since a lot of people seem to be using online journals such as livejournal to record their thoughts, I was wondering how that should be considered. Is it the same as reading someone's physical journal, or does the fact that it is available on the internet with the persons knowlege make it fair to read it?

if you put it on the net, you expect viewing. if you didnt want it to be looked at, you could put a password on it, or not put it online.

I figure that stuff published over the Internet where everybody can read it, then logically it is meant for the public to read. Therefore it is okay. It's not like I'm hacking your computer in order to read your blog.

There's a reason that you keep a journal private, and there's a reason you keep a blog public. Because of the sort of audience you want. People want you to read it. Unless they're stupid enough to not know what happens to stuff on the Internet.

It's a non-issue since they (livejournals at least, dunno about others) have the option for public, friends only, and private viewing.
