Question

Post by Drach »

A month or so before we broke up my ex-fiancee haves me build her a computer and wants me to ship it to her at Kadena AFB in Okinowa where she's stationed. I build her the machine, and she pays for about half of it, sending me blank checks to fill for the rest of it as she has extra money in her account. She keeps putting off getting the rest of the money for awhile then we break up and don't speak for awhile.

At this point, as things lead up to our breaking off, I no longer trust her at all, I'm concerned that if I send her the computer, she'll never finish paying for it. About a week or so ago she left a voice msg on my cell phone saying that if I don't get her the computer within two weeks she's going to call Air Force legal on me...even though she hasn't payed for all of it. I inform her of this and she gives me the go ahead to fill out one of the checks for the rest of what she owes me.

I do so, cash the check and send off her computer, finally thinking I'm done with her for good. Wrong. Check bounced, she now has the computer and is not returning my calls. At this point the money itself isn't important to me. She's pissed me off. Now I want the money just to spite her, which may be wrong of me but oh well.

Now the question is, with her in the Air Force, and stationed in Okinowa while I still live in North Carolina...what can I do about it?
Everyday I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've stayed alive.

Bouncing a check is illegal, no matter where she is stationed. press charges with your local police, they'll direct you in the right direction.

She is so screwed. The military doesn't like it's people making the military look bad buy doing stuff like that. I'm not entirely sure how you go about it but if you really want your money and really want to stick it to her you should write her command. The fact that you have a bounced check as proof is already in your favor. Her command should make her pay you the balance even if they have to deduct it from her pay. It could get her in more trouble if she's been having the same problem with checks in other instances.

Since the check that bounced is a blank one that you filled out for her it might not be quite as easy as I made it seem but in most of these instances the US Military tends to take the side of the people making the complaint unless the military personnel can provide proff otherwise.
