Tom Hanks vs. Tom Hanks

Post by Robert Treder »

Michael Sullivan (Road to Perdition) vs. Capt. John Miller (Saving Private Ryan) in an urban setting.

Sullivan has a Thompson submachine gun with a drum clip, plus a Colt .45 1911 handgun.
Miller has a Thompson submachine gun as seen in Saving Private Ryan, plus a Colt .45 1911 handgun.

Who walks away?

I'm inclined to say Sullivan takes it. They're both awesome, but when it comes down to it, Sullivan is a natural born killer, while Miller is a citizen-soldier.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Since they are both actually Tom Hanks, it's obviously a draw. :P

What's the scenario? Starting off in a bombed out French Town in mid 1944? In a sleepy Southern city in the 30's? Or do they simply start at ten paces and go at it on a featureless landscape.

I vote for the last one myself. :)

Oooo. Tom Hanks & Tom Hanks bleeding on the ground. My housemate would love that, not to mention make her frisky - rowr. :P

Sullivan was a battletrained assassin.
He took huge injuries and still made it through. He reminds me of Spike.

I'd go with Sullivan. He's a pro killer. Miller is a teacher forced into battle.

Miller. I'd love to see Sullivan survive Omaha Beach.

Miller > Sullivan. Miller has been through North Africa and possibly Sicily. The sargeant makes something along the lines of: "I first met him at Kaserine Pass." So we are looking at a very experienced veteran who as Kojikun said is an underpayed teacher on par with a psychotic postal worker. Also, the M1A1 Submachinegun is of better qualiuty then the 1928 Thompson submachinegun.

I'll take a trained soldier over a civilian any day. Shit, he was even a Ranger, wasn't he?

Beat me to it. He did indeed, and got a couple of medals too.

I think Sullivan would take it, personally. Although... FUN FACT TIME: Both the Road to Perdition and Saving Private Ryan movie novellizations (as well as the original graphic novel Road to Perdition) were written by the same author, Max Allen Collins, who is a very cool and nice guy.

Characters written by the same author AND acted by the same actor? Maybe it will be a draw. :P

FYI, Collins didn`t write the SPR screenplay, only the novelization.

Plus he is the only one of the three to survive his movie.

But Sullivan takes it versus Miller.
