But years later, I started doing these Chinese "liver cleanse" operations that my mother has been telling me about for a long, long time (basically, you drink a shitload of pure unsweetened apple juice for a couple of days, and the malic acid in the juice sort of "flushes" your innards, cleaning out a lot of built-up toxins). A whole lot of really ugly stuff comes out of you when you do that; believe me. Strange colours and everything. But after doing that a couple of times, my allergies went away. Make of that what you will; I know a lot of doctors dismiss it as quackery, but it certainly can't hurt you to drink a shitload of pure apple juice for a couple of days.

Interesting. Having strange colored things inside you can't be good. How much apple juice do you have to drink, and where do you get pure, unsweetened stuff? I might try that.

For the past week, my voice has been almost completely gone, but not quite. It's raspy and weak, and my speaking range (not to mention my singing range--gah!) has been limited to a tiny little interval.

It might just be laryngitis - which the research I did this afternoon syas is particularly common in singers and teachers. It should clear up in the next week or so, if it is. Don't sing or teach.

And don't tell us not to worry about you, because we're all nuts for you.

Wel, if I'm right - ear/nose/throat infections are fairly interrelated (thus being a medical area together) - and if you've got something in one, it can block up your sinuses and cause issues elsewhere.

I think so, anyway. It's just I've got an ear infection right now, and I think that's it's also causing my breathing difficulties.

D.W.--Can you go into a bit more detail about the apple juice thing? Is it just apple juice for X number of days, or is that the only liquid you can drink and you can still eat normally?

Either one works. Some people fast for 2 days and during those 2 days, they drink "organic apple juice" (the pure, unsweetened, unfiltered stuff you get at health food stores, not the watered down clear golden piss-like stuff they sell at the grocery store): 2 cups every 2 hours, 7 times per day. Others do the same thing, but they continue eating (albeit lightly, and with light foods such as vegetable soup, not triple-burgers).

Some drink a concoction at the end (olive oil and grapefruit juice) designed to flush gallstones out of you, but I wouldn't do that on a first attempt. And one should be forewarned that some people feel bad when the stuff starts coming out, because it churns up stuff that's been sitting stagnant in there for quite a while.

It's pretty gross to have this weird-coloured shit coming out of you, but it's more gross to think it's still stuck inside your body. When one thinks of the fact that a typical dead person is found to have POUNDS of impacted stool stuck inside their bodies (never mind the Elvis example), one begins to understand why people do this
