I don't know about your history teacher, but I suck at trivia. I tend to only memorize that which I feel I might need someday. For example, I couldn't tell you the name of any of my high school teachers.

Not really. In fact, I don't even think it's the norm. Most of the teachers I had were more into concepts than obscure facts.
