Hero - Ying Xiong

Post by Trytostaydead »

Holy Fuck, I just finished watching the movie. Has Jet Li and Zhang Ziyi (man, does that girl just need to get ravished in every movie or what?) in a historical time piece in China. I didn't understand a word they were saying and with no English subtitles I just assumed all they were saying was "I Kill you!" "YOU DIE NOW!" and so forth.

But essentially, the fight scenes between the swordmasters themselves or against the soldiers are B E A U T I F U L. It's something that surpasses Crouching Tiger and is what Matrix WISHES it could be. Go see now!

Oh yeah. Oh definitely yeah.

But don't forget Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung, two actors who should be far more well known in the Western World than they are. They are clearly among the acting elite of the world.

They don't. The story, without any spoiler involved, is about the same story told many times from the perceptions of two people - the Nameless One and the Emperor.

You missed the point of the movie. While indeed it was beautiful, the story and the characters are what the movie's really about. I recommend watching it with subtitles, and hope to all that's holy that no one tries to deface it by dubbing this masterpiece of a movie.

I doubt it is what CTHD wanted to be or Matrix wishes it could be.

Hero is still basically an art film.

I wonder how the extra half hour or so in the director's cut will improve it.
