Mexican wrestling

Post by Peregrin Toker »

So - mainly through my interest in B-Movies - I have discovered the weird, weird world of Mexican wrestling.

It all sounds rather interesting, but there's something I'm interested in and it's not the silly masks!

Thing is:
Outside of the USA, American wrestling is often ridiculed for the fact that it's
more choreographed than a Broadway musical. Does the same apply to wrestling "South Of The Border."
"Hi there, would you like to have a cookie?"

"No, actually I would HATE to have a cookie, you vapid waste of inedible flesh!"

Possibly... what little I've seen of it seems to be just as much a soap opera as the US version.

I've watched some Luche Libre on tv and its not even close to being trumped up like the WWE. Sure the Mexicans have angles and some storylines to keep things interesting but they don't do any hillbilly marriage angles or kiss my ass scenes.

From what I've seen on Mexican wrestling, the fighters actually seem to be trying to defeat each other instead of just playing some stupid rehearsed silliness.

It appears that an actual fight is a requirement for wrestling in South America, though whether this makes it more or less cheesy is hard to discern.

That's not saying very much however. I don't think I've ever seen any real Mexican wrestling, what station, network in the US carries it?

In Canada, telelatino carries some mexican rasslin' from time to time. I'd suggest you look for the nearest channel with latino programming and go from there.

Problem is - I live in Denmark, and I none of the channels have latino programming. :(
