Moe, Shemp, and Curly were all brothers (last name Howard). You can see the resembelence between Moe and Shemp. Curly apparently looked more like them before he shaved his head.

Of the original four, only Larry Fine wasn't a family member. He was discovered by Ted Healy and the Howard brothers (Moe and Shemp, in this case), performing in a vaudeville act in Chicago.

I don't know much about Joe or Culry Joe besides that they came on board after Curly died and Shemp quit the act for health reasons. I never cared much for either--they both came off as second-rate Curlys.

Moe is probably my favorite Stooge. Unlike a lot of others, I don't prefer Curly to Shemp--they were both funny in their own ways, unlike Joe and Curly Joe, who both imitated Curly's look and style without really managing to pull it off.
