wow. thats odd.
anyway liquor laws in the US vary widely from state to state. some examples: In New Hampshire the state sells liquor in liquor-only stores tax free. they generate revenue from the profit instead of tax. You can buy beer and wine at gas stations and convienience stores in most states except Utah and Rhode Island to name a few. In Utah liquor can only be purchased in those little nip bottles, and you have to join a private drinking club to be in a bar. Many states can't sell beer wine or liquor at retail on sunday, or after a specifed time on every day as early as 8:00 pm (Connecticut). Some counties in many states are actually "dry" meaning that alcohol cannot be bout or sold within county limits....some counties go so far as to ban liquor outright.

I quite like the current state of affairs, Alko is a very good thing I think, it creates renevue for the goverment and allows us to controll booze drinking and quality, which we need since Finns are amongst the heaviest drinkers in the world.

Prices have not yet been monopolized I would say, infact they're gonna go down quite a bit next year, right now you get a .5litre beer at the bar for 3.80€, I think beer prices are gonna drop 30% so that'll be around 2.65€.

This is in a local smalltown bar mind you, a six-pack in the store costs like 5$ in town, that'll be reduced to 3.5€ per six-pack, now thats cheap to me.
