"I Wanna Go Home" by the Beach Boys

The first three lines of this song are:

"We come on the Sloop John B.
My grandfather and me
Around Nassau town we do roam"

It's about a really bad boating trip, for those of you who don't know. Now, my question is, is "Nassau" referring to Nassau, Long Island, or Nassau, Bahamas?
I was always under the impression that it referred to Long Island, but my dad always thought it referred to the Bahamas.

What's y'all's take on it?

actually, the name of that song is The Sloop John B. and i ws under the impression it was Nassau, Bahamas. Who outside of Long Island cares about Nassau, NY?

Bahamas! C'mon, they're the Beach Boys! Why would they go to cold NY, when they could easily go to warm Nassau!
