THEY EDIT OUT THE ASSAULT ON THE SHIRE?!?!?!!??!

Damn!damn!damn!damn!damn!damn!damn! That was another one of my favorite parts of the series! Crap! Ahhh shit. I'll still go see it, but dammit, I ain't gonna be happy.
I actually didn't care for that part of the book much. The real climax to the action had taken place already, and the whole thing seemed like a really dragged-out denouement.
Yes teh actionb was past but the philosophical conclusion and the true final conclusion to the whole story was a long way from over. Until the day that Frodo set sail for the Western Shore the tale of the Ring and the Ringbearer's was still unfinished. There was no conclusion withotu the scouring of the shire and the final departures of Sauruman and Frodo (who oddly enough came to be something of perfect antithesis of each other).

There was a production pic posted a while back showing the 4 hobbits standing in the middle of a field, before it was taken down at the request of the studio.( With Merry and Pippin in their respective armour). Although it doesn't really say much, about this rumour, it was a pretty sombre pic, with a grey, nasty, cloudy sky. For some odd reason both Merry and Pippin looked the taller of the four......
They are taking it out. On the FOTR Extended DVD, on the Directors Commentary is the Mirror of Galadriel scene, PJ explicitly says he's not making it.

On another note, I'd gladly sit through 4+ hours of ROTK, intermission or no, I sat on my couch without getting up for 17 hours or so (Cable TV Simpson's marathon.)

I hate DBZ.

I didn't like the SotS, but if Arwen or another character takes the place of Prince Imrahil, I will be greatly annoyed.

I'd be willing to sit through 4+ hours of ROTK as well, so long as we see plenty of orc heads roll.
I sat on my couch without getting up for 17 hours or so (Cable TV Simpson's marathon.)
So did you have a cup to piss in, or did you attach a hose to it?

Faramir will be taking on the role of Imrahil, in the trailor you can see him leading the knights into battle

Personally I thought the scouring of the shire was the worst part of the entire book. It was anti-climactic and small compared to the events that had just transpired- it was a crappy sort of epilogue that was compeltely uneccessary- I'm glad it was cut.

IIRC Shep has a cochlear implant so he can hear.

I know most theaters in the US have assisted listening devices but I don't know what they have for people who are completely deaf.

Probably glasses of some kind that superimpose, somewhat, the text onto the bottom part of the glasses? Personally, I think all movies should be captioned, you'd be surprised the shit you miss just listening to the movie. My captoining is on constantly at my house, though I have zero problem hearing!

Don't you find yourself reading all of the text rather than watching the movie?

If I can sit out a 6-hour flight then I can sit out a 6-hour ROTK. In fact, I demand nothing less than six hours. Although a brief 3 minute intermission period would be nice.

I could go for the 6 hour movie. Easy. I love long movies.

MTV just got done showing one of the fight scenes out of the Matrix. Plus behind the scenes of Neo vs Smith. Yes, they go flying everywhere and pound this, and break that wall. Personally I'm all for that. It's just like hell to high water on the big screen. Besides. What's the Matrix gonna fall back on if it ain't got the balls to the wall action? The story? What a joke.

I used to. Now it's kind of weird..I kind of integrate the whole picture, including the text. but yeah, I know what you mean, that used to anny the hell out of my GF. but I ain't changing, so the text stays up.
Seriously, give it a try for a few weeks, you'll never go back!
