Mandrake 8.2 sound problem
Sorry to start two different threads within minutes of each other, but I just got Mandrake 8.2 up and running (take that Microsoft), and I was wondering why my sound wasn't working. I've got the C-Media onboard sound that comes with the Soyo Dragon K7V Plus. It lists the driver just fine, but when I go to play an .mp3, nothing comes out.

Okay, here's my current situation: I downloaded some linux drivers and untared them to my desktop, and the instructions say I should change directory to /usr/src/linux and make menuconfig, make config, or make xconfig. Two problems with that are that I have no /usr/src/linux directory, the only thing that's in /usr/src is /RPM, and typing make followed by any of those returns "make: *** No rule to make target `config'. Stop." What should I do?

Hate to keep a thread going that no one has responded to, but I'd just like to say that I tried installing Red Hat 7.2 and now the sound works fine. All distros are not created equal, I guess. Go figure.
