Finally got to see Master and Commander

Post by Patrick Degan »

I have to say I found it a very absorbing movie, one you just sort of lose yourself in as its tapestry of life on the high seas in the days of Wooden Ships and Iron Men unfolds around you. The interplay of Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany was the strong anchor of the character drama, but the movie overall was well served by its casting for the crew of HMS Surprise. Further, my getting out to see M&C last night was the capper for a week in which I was well entertained by the two latest Horatio Hornblower telefilms.

Do you want to see a guillotine in Westminster?!

NO!

Do you want to call Napoleon your king?!

NO!

DO YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO SING THE MARSEILLAISE?!

NO!

I'm hoping we'll see Lucky Jack in another film before too long.

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

It was a great film wasn't it? I'm sure there's a good chance more of the O'Brian novels will be made into movies, too good an oppurtunity for Hollywood to pass up considering Master and Commander has done quiet well.
