actually it only does it after i play HL... and only with the on board NIC enabled, if that's disabled it stays operable, just crashes and no bios fuckups.

Then take it back and get another one.

Abit is no good. They put substandard capacitors on their motherboards which will eventually leak. It happened to my KA7-100, and I paid good money for that board.

Soyo is okay. Abit is head and shoulders above most of the crowd. Tyan is rock-solid, but lacking in features. Intel is the same way.

Ohhh...don't get me started on A-Bit and Gigabyte. Those two, aside from FIC, are the WORST motherboard manufacturers on the fucking planet! You wouldn't believe the ammount of complaints I've had to deal with because of their shotty boards. Gimme Asus anyday. Sure, you pay more but they actually LAST. My A7V has put up with alot and still keeps on ticking. Asus must use Timex components. ;)

Well, ECS/PC Chips/whatever is worse than those three by far. I'd rate Gigabyte and FIC higher than Abit, if only because they actually bought decent capacitors.

Asus costs quite a bit of cash, but it is worth it. If I could, I'd just get a Tyan and be done with it, but that's even more money.

here's the kicker on Tyan, lower quality than ASUS, double or more the price. i checked, Tyan's dual AMD athlon MP board has lower ratings than the ASUS one.

I've heard of the exact opposite. Little to no overclockability, but rock-solid stability is what I hear of.

Lately their quality control has been slipping a bit, but it's still better than even Asus.

Waw waw waw
Cause my *SINGLE EXAMPLE happend all Abit Motherboards are shit! Cause this XXX happen Tyran are shit to

COMON PEOPLE THIS IS WHAT I DID FOR A LIVING
thats not an apele to authority unless I happen to be an authority on myself(Ha! My dog knows more about getting me to do stuff than I do)
I'm coming up on the ten year mark of hands-on computer experence like I said I've persenaly built and designed the better half of over three hundred computers and worked on the better part of a thousnad computers during that time, From Abit to Soyo I've worked with nearly every MB out there on the planet, Hell I picked a ABIT KT7A for my home computer(To become a Linux server next year when I upgrade, Oh and it will be to an Asus board, why? Better features nowadays)

Now fokes, think about this one here, DO you think I MIGHT have some shread of knowledge on the subject of computers having spent so much time with them/repariing them/working and upgrading them over the past few years

And do you also think that I might have gained some insight over those years on what each particular board was like having tested and tinkered with them for nearly eight years now?

Ok?(Or not Ok stop me if you got a problem)
So when I say to you, Prehaps a SINGLE example is not a good enough reason to completly discredit a company and forever excuded them from your list of places to buy BASED ON A SINGLE EXAMPLE?!?!

Ok sorry had to vent there

Bean: I've sworn off Gigabyte because not one, but SEVERAL of their boards have died on me. The only working one I've used is in my mother's comp running a Duron 800. Same for A-bit.

btw, I've been tinkering with comps since I was 8. I'm 21 now. Do the math. :) Hell, I started out on a frelling Commodore 64! :D

Aye, but what where the circumstance of these failures? I for example have instaled and built over ten ABIT NForce series of MB all running W2k for a Travel company, I never had to go out and fix a single problem and as far as I know, eight of them still have yet to crash on them, Hell they only called me once since then to fix a printer problem, and its been eight months
Gigabyte I've worked with alot but never used(I tended to use Asus, Abit or Soyo normaly)

I know what your talking about though my own KT7A gave me no fucking END of trouble with NIC cards until I gave up and dug out my trusty 3Com and tossed it in and its been gold for me for five months now on my super hypbrid, 98SE(Gaming/Typing)/Mandrake 7.1(Tweaking and programming)

Hell I know how to use Punch Card computers!

Hell if I know. They just quit posting. I know its not the power supply since its running my Asus A7V just fine. (300W) Hell, a Deer 250W ran my A7V just fine. It even survived it blowing up! (it only took out my old Quantum 170MB and a mitsumi FDD)

The KA7 and KT7 motherboards have had that problem. More recent Abit boards have had problems. I've seen them plastered all over the ArsTechnica boards.

I'm sorry, but if a company gets so cheap as to use substandard capacitors, I don't think I'll trust them much anymore. It'll take quite a bit of effort to convince me to come back.
