one band i'd recommend that truly kicks ass is E Nomine. i'm not sure how big they are in the states but they've got screaming vocals, (in some songs), synths and guitars. they rock hardcore.

another one is apoptygma berzerk. not really sure how to describe them unfortunately.

last one i can think of is maybe covenant. techno along the vein of e nomine, though no religious overtones.

and let's not forget KMFDM. bigtime heavy metal with major synths.

E Nomine - darkwave (German, mostly). Die Shwarzen Reiter and Das Tier in Mir are reccommendations.

Apoptygma Berzerk - Trance-y techno. Not well liked. -shrugs-

Covenant - good hard techno.. probably also Darkwave.

Some more..

Uhmm.... Maybe Assemblage 23, for some of their songs. Depends on what kind of style you're looking for. Funker Vogt, for sure.
