Oakland and especially Berkley curred me of my willingness to hand out "spare change". Ocassionally there were a few real homeless people (calused hands, matted hair etc...). It was so bad in Oakland that the Burger King near the main Bart Station had to have a security gaurd to keep people from coming in and asking for money while you're eating. I had this guy come up and sit down across from me in the booth. He wanted to shake my hand (hey, I'm using that clean hand to eat you moron) and ask me for money.
Did you visit the Bay Area while in the Navy?

San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and Santa Cruz all have high homeless populations. Part of the problem is the "poverty pimps" in these cities that make a living by peddling solutions for the homeless that do little to actually help them.

Oakland has improved some over the years but it is still a ghetto in the lowlands.

Im surpised there are homeless populations in Arizona. How hot does Tuscon get in the summer?

By giving the panhandler the couple of bucks, it shows that you're in a happy, generous mood. By being in a happy, generous mood on the date, it reflects well on the girl with whom you are on a date with, and thus makes her feel good. Girls like guys that make them feel good.

Its a personal experience thing I guess. I have gone out with several girls who would graciously interact with and feel charitable towards the homeless and beggars, thus my behavior has evolved as such.

I only give money to those homeless people on the street if they come up to me specifically and begs for some and I make the mistake of acknowledging his existence. Then there are the people that are asking you for a dollar who aren't homeless, so that you'll take out your wallet and they'll snatch it and run or get a couple guys together and try to intimidate the money out of you or just beat you up for it but usually they'd stop if they aren't able to intimidate it out of you.

I feel no guilt whatsoever because I support that welfare system with my tax dollars, which means that I am already helping out the poor.

GO ON WELFARE, YOU FUCKERS. That's assuming they're not ALREADY on welfare and are using this in order to get more money. When you see these assholes camped out on certain "spots" regularly, you begin to see that it's obviously supplemental income for them, particularly if you know somebody who works at the liquor store and who can tell you that they come in there at the end of the day to spend their "earnings".

The only time I give money to somebody on the street is if he's doing something to earn it, like a street musician. Sitting there with your cap in hand and asking for my money is merely proof that you're a fucking useless shit.
Our goverment need to start permitting hunting of the homeless eh? Every ear you bring in gets you 5 bucks.:)

I feel the same way mike does,One time outside of a 24 hour grocery store(Supervalu) There were 2 bums begging for change..so I had them have a fist fight for a loonie and they ended up going at it really good and dropped the dollar I had given them.

I picked it up and walked away well they were still fighting over it...most funny.:D

I simply ignore them. Don't slow down, don't acknowledge they're there. Just walk by.

Have a very nice day.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P

My ship was stationed in Alameda at the time. :)

I only went to SF a couple of times while I was there though. There were too many huge hills to be walking around SF much.

It gets plenty hot but if you can get water and stay in the shade it's tolerable most of the time. Plus when it really hot there are usually air conditioned places that are open that people can loiter in. It must be relatively easy to deal with because we don't hear reports of homeless people dying because of the heat.

As for winter, it does get below freezing at night but not that often and not way below freezing like much of the rest of the country during the winter.

Customs eh? I thought you guys couldn't open domestic stuff? or was it imported?

Well the story behind it was I had a dollar left and there were two scummy looking bums...I said to them"I got a dollar left,Fight for it if your hungry enough."-Course I said this as a joke...they took it literally....and thats what happened.:D

I have in the past when i thought the guy lookd like he really needed. Belfast is full of homless these days. They followed the money up from Dublin. The people that really annoy me are those cunts getting 7 quid an hour to harass christmas shoppers. One of them walked up to me a few weeks ago aske if i'd donate a fiver a month to Save The Children. I smiled at the fella and said that i already worked and volunteered for a charity. The asshole just looked me up and down and said "Aye and very well you do out of it from the looks of you."
