Chasing Amy, it's Smith's masterwork IMO as a director. It combined a wonderful plot with genuine human emotion, and lesbians. It's wonderful as a film and I think some of Ben Affleck's best work that I've seen.(I haven't seen the new Affleck/Carlin movie that Smith's directed yet though I most certainly will.)
Clerks comes of second, it's his debut and the first example of his humor and shows the beginning of Smith's screenwriting style in its rawest purest form and makes it apparent that he's a wonderful writer.

Technically, the Jersey Trilogy is only three movies. Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back are not part of the Jersey Trilogy.
So really, this poll should be "Which of Kevin Smith's Jay & Silent Bob Movies Is the Best?". Either that, or reduce it to three options.
Oh, and out of the Jersey Trilogy, Chasing Amy is easily the best. Mallrats and Clerks are great, but Chasing Amy blows them out of the water.

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

I thought that, but IMDb lists all 5 as a trilogy.Robert Treder wrote:Technically, the Jersey Trilogy is only three movies. Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back are not part of the Jersey Trilogy.

Ask Kevin Smith. Or, ask yourself...realize that both Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back take place mostly not in New Jersey.Gandalf wrote:I thought that, but IMDb lists all 5 as a trilogy.Robert Treder wrote:Technically, the Jersey Trilogy is only three movies. Check out Scott Mosier's bio on the View Askew site, written while he was making Vulgar. It lists the trilogy as ending at three, and lists Dogma as seperate.
Also note that the Criterion Collection did not include any Dogma characters in its guide to the Jersey Trilogy, even though Dogma had come out at the time.
Basically, it goes like this: Kevin Smith has made five Jay and Silent Bob movies, and he will not make any more. Within those five Jay and Silent Bob movies, there is a subset of movies called "The Jersey Trilogy", which consists of the films Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy.
IMDb may say that it's a five-part trilogy, but frankly, IMDb is wrong in that case. It's not like IMDb is infallible - hell, I've submitted corrections to their Star Wars entries.

Does CC's guide for the trilogy have any reference to other trilogy characters that appeared in the first two films but not Chasing Amy?
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Yes, as I said, it's a guide to the characters of all three movies. It even includes their high schools and graduation years.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Does CC's guide for the trilogy have any reference to other trilogy characters that appeared in the first two films but not Chasing Amy?

I've only seen Dogma and bits and pieces of J&SBTB, so Dogma gets my vote.

Clerks
The original, and still best, of all of Kevin Smiths movies. It holds a place near and dear in my heart due to the simple fact that I am Dante Hicks in almost every way. The beginning where Dante answers the phone from under a pile of bedding, clothes and other assorted shit only to be called into work on short notice.....thats me. Confused on matters of my direction in life and relationships, check, smarmy but fun friend, check, job that forces me to interact with the quantum brain trust that is your average American consumerist sheep, motherfucking, I pray they all die screaming, CHECK!!!!.............Jake meet Dante, Dante meet Jake.....this is why I love Clerks

Fourth gear at least. There's no way in hell a Cavalier is geared to go over 100 in first or second gear and probably not third; most cars hit their rev limiter for first gear at around 45 mph, second around 70.Vertigo1 wrote:Then theres Jay doing over 100....IN FIRST GEAR
Doing some quick calcs, the Cavvy would generously be turning about 19,000 RPMs in first great at that speed with the Getrag tranny they have and a 3.94 final drive. Second gear? Just over 10,000 RPMs. And now that I run the numbers, it'd be turning 7200 RPMs at 100 mph in third gear, which is probably above the rev limiter as well. Fourth gear is 5200 rpm or therabouts, which is probably enough to overheat that poor little car.
Interesting bit of trivia about that scene: Kevin Smith wanted to have the Beastie Boys playing in the car instead of whatever they had, but for some reason, one of the Beastie Boys wouldn't allow them to do it.
