You never think about these things existing in real life, only in works of fiction designed for social commentary. This needs to stop, and soon. And the real sick thing is that the people responsible for this won't be punished. After all, the Caribbean is known for it's loose extradition laws. Even if this gets shut down and the people who work their brought up for crimes in the United States, as long as they stay in Jamaica, they cannot be touched.
Much as I dislike the notion of taking the law into my own hands, it does indeed appear that vigilante action is the only way to stop this. I would suggest quietly hiring a team of ex-Spetsnaz mercenaries.
Well let's get to it! Every day we spend talking about it is one day less of freedom to the poor kids locked up in that fucking false prison! BUST EM LOOSE AND BUST SOME HEADS!!!

I did a little search google search on "Tranquility Bay" Jamaica Abuse and found this site which had a link to what looks like a copy of a google translated version of the Tranquility Bay enrolment agreement which has since been taken down. If it is what it claims to be it's disturbing given what I read in the original article.

20. STAFFING. As stated earlier, Tranquility Bay is not a treatment facility. Therefore, Sponsors understand that staff are hired not necessarily by credentials but to carry out the outlined programs specifically designed to benefit students at Tranquility Bay.

28. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS. The Facility at Tranquility Bay was previously used as a Hotel. The facility while nice is not elegant and/or exquisite. Furthermore, the Sponsors understand that the living conditions in Jamaica may not always be the same as the United States. Sponsors agree to hold harmless and release the School/Program from any liability or damages resulting from the living conditions.

To think people would accept this agreement and willingly give their children over to these monsters gives me chills.

I read some other parts, and found this quote funny:
Former President George W. Bush even made a TV commercial promoting Straight, Inc.
I say these places should be inspected by government officials and the reports released to the public.

You know, if you went to Jamaica, bought some guns and bombs, then busted those kids out, destroyed the school and came back to the USA, could the US government charge you with anything?

Come to think of it, there's one of these things in California, too. It's out in the desert, and as far as I know, it's simply referred to as "The Ranch". But it's for real criminal delinquents, not this richkid disobedient bullshit.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

This is just SO wrong. I can't imagine sending MY kids away to a place like this...

Sorry if I keep resurrecting a dead horse, but this issue has me steamed and I'm determined to do what I can.

I'm compiling a list of resources and personal accounts on Tranquility Bay, and plan to place them into an online 'database' in the near future. Once done, I want everyone to feel free to distribute the accounts and information to absolutely everywhere- every message board you visit, your own website, to your school/college/university/workplace. Contact your local newspaper about Tranquility Bay, get in touch with your local MP/Senator/Congressman, get the truth about this place known to as many people as possible.

Ya know, you would frankly have to kill me to keep me in a place like that.

Where the Hell is Amnesty International?

Shouldn't they be denouncing this and/or ordering an investigation?

Sounds barbaric, especially considering the crap they're being sent there for.

I'm a mother; my kids are 9 and 7, respectively. I'm having a hard time understanding the concept these parents have of their 'difficult' children. These kids aren't evil, yet they are treated like the worst kind of criminals.

I absolutely do not believe this is the correct way to earn a child's (or teen's) respect. As a parent, I want my children to respect me and my authority. I don't believe that threatening, verbal or physical abuse, or sending them to this type of 'camp' will achieve that goal. I have to earn their respect by how I act and what I do.

While I certainly agree that drug and alcohol addictions are very difficult to deal with, there are treatment facilities available that do not tear the addict apart and crush his/her spirit. Wouldn't that make them want to retreat further into their drug- or alcohol-induced fantasyland, to escape the anger and rage being directed at them?

These kids aren't machines that can be fixed or scrapped for 40 grand. They're human beings with needs, desires, wants, dreams, and goals. Children don't do exactly what you want every second of the day; they're not robots.

I visited Jamaica many years ago. I went to Ocho Rios, climbed Dunn's River Falls, and marveled at the beauty of the island. I never thought such ugliness could exist there.

While it's basically impossible for the US government to do anything about the existence of these places, I don't see what's stopping anyone from making a law saying that it's illegal to send your child to any foreign educational facility where the the child's rights are not required to be respected.

What's the motivation for sending your children to another country to be disciplined? Simple. Their slogan is, "Send your kids that you're too inept as a parent to keep in line and we'll straighten 'em out, 'cause we do shit to 'em that's just plain illegal in the US!"

An invasion of this leads to a few interesting thoughts.

1. Wouldn't this place have some small arms to prevent inmate uprisings?

2. And would inmates that have been there longer actually try to defend the place?

3. Could you inspire a rebellion from the inside? it would bring places like this to the world's attention, and that might cause something.

The AK-47 is a piece of shit next to the M-16A2 rifle. It's a beautiful, reliable piece. Perfect for taking out these fucking gestopos. Another thing: The M-16 uses smaller rounds; 5.56mm. The 16 sends it very fast. Because of the small size, the bullet may ricochet off the bone. Can you imagine shooting someone once in the chest and having the round coming out of their kneecap or something like that? If your gung-ho AK-47 fantasies came true, there wouldnt be enough ammo in the fucking world to kill off the staff from the amount of ammo you'll waste in full auto. Use a real weapon to kill those bastards: the M-16A2.
