Really? I haven't heard much Marduk but among metalheads there's an increasing opinion that Marduk aren't a true metal band. (at least not a true Black Metal band... current Marduk mostly resembles a hybrid between Black Metal and Death Metal) In any case, Marduk's music is with increasing frequency derisively referred to as "norsecore" or (even worse) "mallcore" among metalheads.Embracer Of Darkness wrote:Because they rock.Rye wrote:I actually quite like marduk.
Met them twice and seen them play more times than I've had hot dinners.Rye wrote:I now probably like dimmu borgir at an unhealthy level.
Extreme metal is good for you.[/quote]
Dimmu Borgir is "extreme" metal? Metal, sure, but I find it a bit too unoriginal and accessible to be truly extreme.

Yeah, but metalheads are notoriously retarded for their opinions on music, i.e. if it's not some shitty band noone's ever heard of, they've "sold out" and no longer true scotsm- er.. metal bands. "Nightwing" is probably their most melodic song i've heard and that's still pretty harsh, not mallcore by any stretch of the imagination.Peregrin Toker wrote:

Seriously, anyone who referred to marduk as mallcore needs to eat his own face to the soundtrack of "Christraping black metal".
Well, i wouldn't count them as "extreme" but they are considerably better than most of the crap out there. They're never boring in their songs, with definately heavy bits.Dimmu Borgir is "extreme" metal? Metal, sure, but I find it a bit too unoriginal and accessible to be truly extreme.
I like the accessibility, personally, it reminds me of orchestral film scores.

To be honest, I've never seen anyone refer to Marduk as mallcore. However, they've been described as "norsecore" (whatever that is), "posers" (as in [Manowar]WHIMPS AND POSERS, LEAVE THE HALL![/Manowar]) and as "grindcore trying to pass itself off as Black Metal".Rye wrote:Yeah, but metalheads are notoriously retarded for their opinions on music, i.e. if it's not some shitty band noone's ever heard of, they've "sold out" and no longer true scotsm- er.. metal bands. BTW - much as I am convinced you don't need to be told this, a band isn't necessarily "shitty" just because they're very obscure. Most all-but-unknown bands AFAIK are only obscure because they:
1. Are signed on to small labels which can't afford printing that many copies of each album.
2. Deliberately want their albums to become collectibles.
Oh, perhaps I were too harsh on Dimmu Borgir. My stance on Dimmu Borgir, after hearing some of their music, is: I prefer Bal-Sagoth over Dimmu Borgir for a variety of reasons which I find completely justifiable.Well, i wouldn't count them as "extreme" but they are considerably better than most of the crap out there.
