US Army, Infantry during Active Duty (1986-88), Reserves since then. Currently a Sergeant in US Army Reserves as a Combat Engineer. Also played with tanks for two years but didn't like that much.

Huh. 19-eighty-eight automatically gets translated into 8)

Oh, well.

I loved my time in and had a lot of fun; I was in Germany in 1987 for REFORGER and absolutely loved it. I spoke some German and could get along with the locals real well. The girls are cute. It was way cool to visit East Berlin while I could-- so odd to think that wall isn't there anymore.

I also got to play in the US Army's #1 playground: NTC, National Training Center in the Mojave Desert.

In the Reserves I did some desk & Intel work for a couple years but thgat drove me nuts, so I tried M1tanks for awhile and that was only marginally better (my Lieutenent was one of those officer types that would set up a lawn chair and drink Pepsis while the rest of us would work. He was the only officer I ever had a serious problem with.)

But in 1992 I went to Reserve Engineers and now I'm a Sapper, and it's fun. I'm Infantry at heart, though.

It seems on this board we could form maybe two squads (some of whom would be more of a technical support type nature) and kick a LOT of ass. Lets form our own merc unit.... 8) :D

I got my hard stripes in 1998 so you trump me. I've always done well with grenades (expert) but my rifle skills, I admit, are middle-of-the-road. I do always score in the top 10% for physical fitness scores, though. I've got a lot of stick time with the M-113 series and I am good with AK series weapons (frequently better than with the M-16! I'm a heretic!).

We could get some cool IFVs aftermarket (I'm currently fond of either the Stryker [US Army version of the LAV] or the South African Rooikat) for the Tankers to drive while us grunts pound the brush and perforate multitudes of foes...

Also good: a variety of training styles and backgrounds-- US Army and Marines, British, German, Scandinavian... well-rounded group...

Indeed, we could form a sub-group of the Heavy Armour Brigade or even our own little group. No need for a private Forum just an indicator in the sig (the Heavy Armour Brigade Forum already handles the Military stuff well enough, no need to duplicate it.) Any suggestions for a name for our Merc outfit?

"Payer's Slayers"
"Rogue Troopers"
Anymore guys?

Corellian Gunboat as transport (a few bits of false superstructure and you have a passable modular Transport lookalike), Small Shuttles for team moves and Sentinels for Platoon moves.
Anyone want to handle a possible 1033/TOE for if I or others want to do some Fanfic with us guys?

"Warwolves"

"The Lone Gunmen" (heheheh)

"The Butcher's Dozen"

"Drake's Devils" (as in David Drake)

"Dark Troopers" (or has that been used?)

"Vader's Raiders"

In Britain you can join (with written permission) at 16, otherwise it's 17yrs. Though the norm is/was to wait until they were 17.5 before accepting applications. This may have changed though.

Hmm....

In the "Fanfics" section I suggested people post charavcter types they'd like to see themselves as. We should consider what the closest SW equivilent of ourselves would be and put up a brief bio. Either ex-Rebels or ex-Stormies (although most SW and EU sources insist that Stormies only leave the service feet first).

Our Navy or Air Force guys might have been able to pool together to get a ship and us grunts would populate it and prepare for action...

Well I was just thinking of using our characters (I've noticed that very few of us use 'online persona's') but set in the SW/ST/Where ever universe.

It's just a suggestion for group thing, So say someone had a Military question, they could say at the end "anyone from [merc name] got an answer?" One of us is bound to see it, and so word gets around to those that aren't reading that thread.

We don't need to invent ranks (we all have them already), but if they want certain Character bits in, then that's cool.

Anyway, we should wait to see how many answers we get by tomorrow.

I'm going to start a new thread, then I'm camping in the Fanfic Forum until tomorrow night.

Hard part is hauling anything along. A Corvette can haul some infantry but nothing much bigger then a heavy landspeeder. My repulser tank would be hard pressed to fit.

How about something like Karrde's freighter? It should carry enough room for a few heavy things while not being overly crew-intensive.

Make that one more SGT. Got my third stripe in 96, so I guess Rob has the senority.

Qualed: 5 time rifle expert, 3 time pistol expert(have one sharpshooter), 4 time expert on M60. CAS/first responder, HMMV licence, CRRC qualed, combat skier, graduated survival school, machinegun school, and instructor school.

Served as primary Nav. instructor and primary weapons instructor. Also served as secondary MOUNT instructor. And as a hobby, improvised explosives dude.

Yeah, an Action IV class freighter with a few surprises.

Gentlemen, i beleive i have found our perfect transport/mobile base 8)

http://members.tripod.com/Tiger887/ContainerTrans.html

At 200 metres it's 3 cargo bays are large enough for our needs, it's a ship type that is known and ignored throughout the SW universe. In an emergency it can dump the bays and be a fast way out of trouble.

Layout : Bay1 = 2 Sentinel class shuttles, plus any ground vehicles.#
Bay2 = 2 lambda class shuttles, main Armoury.#
Bay3 = 1 XG-1 Starwing, Long-term supply stowage.#

# (Plus anything else we can think of over time.)

We keep the crew quarters, briefing rooms and Mess in the ships body. In normal circumstances the Vessel acts only as a launch point for missions and will be on the peripherary of operational area's. If however the shit hits the fan and the vessel itself is attacked, we jettison the bays, the pilots take the small craft and their ready-loads into Hyperspace while the XG-1 provides interference. The main ship also runs and what's left in the Bays goes boom. That way we all make it out and the majority of lost stuff is largely replacable.

Any thoughts?
