Same here. I really feel bad for them. They struggled so hard to get to those penalties and than lost on one goal.
Thing is I would have felt the same way if the score had been the other way around. No team should have to lose like that.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

Anyone else kind of surprised at how long the US is staying in the mix? Given how few people give a damn about the sport beyond something to use as a way to get their kids to run around for a bit, I wouldn't expect the US to have the greatest team. To put it lightly.
Stay classy?

Classy went out the window as the German tabloids (most specifically the paper with the largest circulation in all of Europe) went the lowbrow route leadng up to the game.
You don't say Nazi to a German. Not ever. It literally is the worst thing in the world you can do. Whatever Bild says, it does not compare to it.

How exactly did Bild go low-brow anyway? I've had issues lying around in the cafeteria of my office, but just from the headlines I couldn't find anything particularly offensive other than showing Klinsman distraught and gloating that the US team should go and cry in a corner ("Heult doch!"). That's not quite sporting, but not exactly warranting Nazi-comparisons.

Whose bright idea is it to play a match at 1pm, when the weather is 39 degree Celsius?

Well, at least Uruguay is out and good riddance.

Watching the Netherlands - Mexico match now, beautiful long range cannon by Dos Santos right at the beginning of the second half and Mexico in the lead. We'll see if yet another European giant gets eliminated from the tournament.

The Dutch are probably going out, but as much as I love seeing European teams dropping like flies, I can't say it was a fair result, the ref has missed two extremely obvious penalties on Rafa Marquez alone.

Congratulations Costa Rica.

Greece's defenders deserve a better forward line than what they have, they're fucking diabolical! 5v2 and they fuck it up, unbelievable!

Greece are a dire team to watch. They only won a European Championship by boring the opponents to death.

I was disappointed to see Mexico go out but with against a player like Robben you can't make physical contact unless you are 100% sure you'll get the ball first.

Costa Rica showed some real quality in their shoot out. They how you do it. A goalie is thinking left of right, very few will stay still so if you launch it high and hard down the middle you can rarely go wrong.

I'd like to see Columbia go on to win it.

He could easily have had two penalties prior to that, in fairness - in fact, they were more fouls than the one that was given. Once Mexico scored, they stopped playing and tried to hold on.

Solid at controlling the ball though, which is its own kind of defense.

We sucked but we won. It looked at times as if nobody wanted the ball.

Lucky for who? Germany pretty absurdly held the edge in quantity and quality of chances to score, particularly in the 2nd half and extra time, unless Algeria got very lucky eventually they would start going into the net and Algeria wasn't likely to get goals of their own playing like that. Those occassional long balls they managed looked dangerous at points, but they didn't really amount to anything. Maybe its different if Germany's keeper doesn't play the way he did to neutralize those attacks, but its pretty clear that was how they planned to do it and it was effective.

EDIT: Now if you want to say that Germany's defenders were awful and Neuer brilliant, I wouldn't have any issue with that.

Oh dear - Cameroon players accused of match-fixing :-(

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28102841
Cameroon officials are to investigate claims that seven of their players were involved in match-fixing at the World Cup in Brazil.

The ethics committee of the African country's football federation will look at allegations of "fraud" by "seven bad apples" in their three group games.

The allegations have been made in a German news magazine Der Spiegel by a convicted match fixer from Singapore.

Cameroon lost all their Group A games, including a 4-0 defeat by Croatia.

The Indomitable Lions had Alex Song sent off for lashing out at Mario Mandzukic in that game, while team-mates Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Benjamin Moukandjo clashed late on in the game.

The allegations were made by convicted football match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal, who was detained by police in Finland in April on an international arrest warrant.

In a discussion with Der Spiegel, the Singaporean correctly forecast the result with Croatia and that a player would be sent off.

A statement from Cameroon's FA read: "Recent allegations of fraud around Cameroon's 2014 Fifa World Cup three preliminary games, especially Cameroon versus Croatia, as well of the 'existence of seven bad apples [in our national team]' do not reflect the values and principles promoted by our administration, in line with Fifa's code of conduct and the ethics of our nation.

"We are strongly committed to employ all means necessary to resolve this disruptive matter in the shortest delays."

Fifa did not comment on whether it was looking into the issue as football's world governing body did not want to "compromise any possible investigations".

It did, however, add: "Speaking generally, the integrity of the game is a top priority for Fifa and as such we take any allegations of match manipulation very seriously."

Cameroon's build up to the tournament in Brazil was marred by the players refusing to board a plane to Brazil until a dispute over bonus payments had been settled.

A financial package was eventually agreed with Cameroon's football federation, Fecafoot, but the squad's journey to the World Cup had been delayed for almost a day.

They started the tournament with a 1-0 defeat by Mexico prior to the loss to Croatia and being beaten 4-1 by hosts Brazil.

"Some players behaved very badly, and that's why we have conceded four goals," Cameroon head coach Volker Finke told French newspaper L'Equipe after the Croatia defeat.

"I know that it is difficult to play with 10 men, but that is not a reason to lose it to this point.

"The game was balanced until the red card. The Croatians were more clinical in front of goal, but Cameroon also had chances to score.

"The behaviour of some of the players is really not satisfactory. Even when we were 11-a-side, it was not acceptable."

Fellow African nation Ghana is also involved in allegations over corruption.

The country's Football Association has called in the police to investigate the claims, although the GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi is to sue the Daily Telegraph newspaper over its claim he agreed for the national team to play in matches others were preparing to fix.
