Because he's retiring. The announcement is scheduled for MOnday morning barring a huge surprise.

The Tech upset was awesome but the way their D melted away at the end reminded me of why they are usually considered a second tier Big 12 team. The Big 12 North being so much better this year than it's Southern counterpart is nothing short of a miracle. When they divded that conference I think they expected Colorado and Nebraska not to go into a tailspin so suddenly.

Personally, I thought he should have gotten the sack as far back as 2 years ago, where the Wolverines were having a Godawful season which is probably as bad as if not worse than this current season.

I think we lost to Notre Dame 2 years ago. That is how bad that season 2 years ago was.

You mean when the 3rd ranked Wolverines got upset big time at the big house? Yeah that wasn't much fun for y'all.

I think it wasn't just one upset, we lost many games that season and never made it to the rose bowl. 2 years later, history repeats itself, though we beat Notre Dame, but that counts for nothing since Notre Dame was clearly that kid round the block everyone could beat just by giving him a light push.

I was kind of glad that Doug Flutie came out and said that Henne must have gone to the locker room to get his shoulder shot up so he could play. It bugs me that people go on and on about performance enhancing stuff but don't say shit about people getting shots of pain killers etc... so they can keep playing.

It wasn't just one upset that year, but the Wolverines had their hopes for the whole season crushed early in the season on their own turf.

Notre Dame was ranked, albeit much much lower than Michigan. There are only two excuses for a #3 ranked team losing at home, even to a rival.

1- If that team is ranked #1
2- If that team is ranked #2

Flutie is an exceptional commentator. He's not the typical ex-football player idiot or wannabe jock fool that handle most of ESPN/ABC's sports coverage. Even more than standing up for Henne, I liked how he pointed out Mike Hart and took him down a peg for his trash talking. It was a pitiful display on his part and not the kind of leadership that he needed to bring to the field.

Pretty Much. I thought Loyd Carr ought to have gone back then given the atrocious season. What probably stopped him from getting the sack was the following season which was a lot better, but it seems that his mistakes were never corrected. And now, here we are.

Off he goes.

One of my favorite Flutie things is how much he hates it when people hold the football at arm's length in one hand trying to get it across the line. :)

Geez, talk about ungrateful fans or are there just that many Michigan haters?
AOL Sports poll wrote:What will Lloyd Carr be remembered for at Michigan?

Losing four straight against Ohio State 66%

Winning 1997 National Championship 34%

Total Votes: 24,639
:?

I guess being the first Big Ten team that I can remember even getting a piece of the National Championship isn't worth much. Not to mention it had been 49 years (1948 to 1997) since Michigan had last won the football national championship.

Personally I think Lloyd Carr was a class act, not as fun to beat as Schembeckler, but a good guy and coach. But then I thought John Cooper at OSU was a decent guy as well. :D

The people who vote in Online polls were but wee lads and lasses in 1997. It isn't just about Four in a row to Ohio State, but watching OSU play in two national titles and winning one in that time frame.

I'm 25 years old and although I was alive and am aware that Lloyd Carr brought Michigan back to prominence the most vivid memories are the repeated BCS bowl failures and Ohio State failures of the past 6-7 years.

On a related note, huge credit to Jim Tressel. During a halftime presentation at an OSU/Michigan basketball game in Colubus, the first thing he told the fans, and I remember watching this on TV, was that he "we're going to beat Michigan." The crowd absolutely erupted. Michigan's new coach needs to come right out and say what he is going to do and do something to reinvigorate the fanbase. Michigan's fans are as close to starving for football success as any program in the country. (I think Irish fans starved to death this year ;-))

So anyone else want to help me start the rumor that Nick Saban is thinking about accepting the job at Notre Dame as Charlie Weis' replacement?

The Upset Bug struck again: claiming LSU for a second time in this bizarre season in which nobody can seem to hang onto a top slot in the polls for longer than three weeks at a stretch.

50-48 in triple overtime. Again, triple overtime. Only this time it burned a bit worse since the game ended with Matt Flynn being intercepted in the endzone on the 2-point conversion attempt.

Oh, agreed. I was on the edge of my seat from the third quarter on.

Let the SEC whining begin. :D

In the past there have been complaints from the SEC that they couldn't get to the national championship game because they beat each other up too much. While I think that teams in that conference do pound the shit out of each other more than any other conferenece I think that it should be really tough to get through any even remotely worth while conference with just one or two losses.

I'm just glad there aren't a lot of independent teams cruising along anymore. Less chance of them scheduling a few big games mixed in with a bunch of patsies.

Oh yeah. Think Les Miles is going to Michigan now?

How much will Ohio State owe Michigan if the distraction of Lloyd Car's retirement and the speculation on the next coach helps get OSU back in the national title game?

 Why the fuck doesn't anyone want to be #1 or 2 this year?! This is just fucking ridiculous. At this rate a solid 2 loss team could wind up playing for the National Championship. Just silly.

So College Football Fans, is this season a fluke or are we finally seeing parody in the college ranks?

Don't you mean parity?

Either Missouri or Kansas will drop out after tonight, leaving OSU at #3. Then if West Virginia loses to UConn *crosses fingers* we're in the championship!

It's got to be hard as hell on those players, knowing that others decide their fate for the next few weeks. Judging from my own experience, I would say that the waiting and hoping is far worse than just going out there and handling it yourself.

And in other news, the pathetic 2007 Notre Dame squad managed to limp out of the season ender with an upset win over Stanford, 21-14.

Well Missouri won against a tough opponenet and WVU rolled through a ranked one so baring losses for either of them I think that will be our naitonal championship game.

On the personal side MD is bowl eligible despite having only 3 offensive starters last the whole season so I will take that as a damn fine sign. Especially since the ACC has 8 bowls and 8 eligible teams we are a lock to play somewhere in December.
